My template is - well, will be very soon:
Master BE
Master Rifleman
0-4-0-0 CH
4-0-4-0 Scout
Novice Medic
I've got 2 vendors, both run by guildmates, and have to beg people to do surveying for me if a decent flora comes up. I am tempted by that second accout, because i'd love to be able to use my own pets - I'm just not willing to give up the ability to pvp to do so.

I have a DE on another server. Just setting up shop without merchant skills is virtually useless. I did the sell the droids on the bazaar trick and point people to my shop, but it really didnt do much business.
Being a successful BE and having a successful shop would almost force you to take 3 0 0 0 merchant. My template of BE and CH is leaving nothing for artisan and very few for combat skills. So far im happy selling the lower level pets on the bazaar for less than 6K. If/when I start producing crated runs, Im thinking either sell the raw materials on the bazaar (including the schematic) or getting a factory and selling the crates on the bazaar. If you establish yourself on the bazaar and can get some business that way, at least you get the names of who is buying what and you can email them to see if they need more.
At least thats my theory, anyone go this route and be successful?

BE is very difficult and right now i'm at a cross roads because of the in accuracys when I produce a creature. Right now i'm 2/2/2/1 in BE i'm 4/2/4/3 in rifleman and 0/1/0/0 in novice CH reason I choose to do novice ch is so that I could test out and make sure my creations would be right. Unfortunately I have had almost 3/7 to nearly 4/7 of my creatures have invalid pet stats. The main reason i'm finding is i'm putting high powered DNA like 600 hardiness and such into the slots for physique, mental, psychological and (it escapes my mind) other slot then I put in something like a corellian butterfly drone sample into the aggression slot so I can really lower the creatures lvl. I find that this can lower its lvl but produce inaccuracies as to it being non ch
. But really it is difficult but can be over come I found by seeking out the right person and talking to them. I mean I wear my BE tag and passed a master tailor and she flagged me down asking about tissues I can create. If you don't want the artisian stuff just send a tell to the master tailor people or e-mail them with your prices and such. Only thing I really find is that as BE's we should be able to control our creations up to lvl 20 or so.

Currently my template is:
Master BE
Rifleman 4/3/4/3
CH 0/0/0/4 (Let's me have two pets out CL24 combined.)
Scout 0/0/4/0
Medic 0/0/0/4
I originally had points for basic merchant skill and even managed to get planetary map before having to drop it. Finally broke down and bought another account just to be able to defend myself AND be able to sell my products.
Our base skills come from two separate classes, making us require two Novice boxes just for one elite skill - which is silly. Granted, every one of us that buys another account just to play our main class simply adds to SoE's unwillingness to change it. Why should they? They'd loose money on the canceled alt accounts.

The spread of your skill points and skills will always be a total PITA as a BE. Having Artisan 0030, high skill in Mask Scent, and proficiency in a combat profession will work very well for you.
What you may be able to do is search out a guild that emphasizes a communal mentality. My guild has always been great about supplying me meats and such as long as it comes back around in the end in the form of BE, Tailor, or Chef goods. Not needing to do my own hunting, in addition to having acentralized guildvendor location and a long established name worked wonders. There's no way I would have been able to be BE as long as I was without them... perhaps you may be able to find a guild who you can mutually benefit from as well!
