Thread: Rancor DNA Trick
huh?
".... The only tip I can offer you is Patience. In the end it will pay off. I sampled bull rancors for about 3 hours last night and went home with 50 samples of AA-VHQ qualities. Now my vendor is stocked with powerful pets ..."
Thought Bull Rancors are above the hard cap for sampling? So what Bull is this ... pun intended ... which Bull Rancor ...
hehe
Zip your bike right through the herd, and pull them onto a small group of malklocs. they hate each other and are sure to fight almost everytime I have seen.Drive back up without even masking scent, stay about 20m out(seems to be just out of aoe bleed range), dismount and MS just before the malklocs die. Then you can sample all you like and almost never draw aggro unless it is from the sampling. Also, there does seem to be a definitive "aggro-cone" extending out like a field of view now...didn't seem as noticeable until recent patch to me. Much easier to skirt around the mob and sneak in from behind it.
It was much harder to do previous to vehicles but with them you shouldn't have any problems getting close to them, its just a process of making them accustom to your scent.
I'm a Trandoshan, I dont sneak anywhere. I barge through on my smoking swoop bike.
My old trick was just to rush in screaming, feign death, get up and they would pretty much ignore me unless I was attacked (assuming mask scent was still on.) But now they come back looking for you once you get back up. FD is still a handy escape but you have to FD a fair way away from the camp and give them time to walk back before you get back up.
I still prefer using FD in some places than just dying and cloning.
If a bull rancor gets off his plague strike youcan count on having a black HAM bar by the time you can make it back to the outpost.
The trick to rancor sampling = Armor, escape route
This is true so much so that with only 87 in Mask Scent (70 from Explor 4, and 17 from one item of clothing) I don't even need to go prone to get within the magic 15m. Also, once something has failed to detect you you can pretty much come and go as you please, running away when you fail+aggro, with no chance of gaining aggro again when you get near.
To put it in perspective, my first day at the Rancor cave I spent 5 hours and got 3 samples from Mutants. My first attempt at "wild" mutants I was there for about an hour and took home 7 samples. This was purly due to the realive ease and safety of sampling outside of the cave.
Hope this helps some.
I'm new to BE but I'm a MCH and think taming them's about the same as sampling when it comes to sneaking up on them, and I used to train 5-10 a day to make a living.
Best tip: Keep your global heads up map on. Watch the arrows more than the actual rancors. With mask scent on, it's a lot easier to walk up on them as long as none in the group are facing you.
If they detect you. Pause in place, and wait to mask again.
If the sampling causes them to aggro, run. They're slow.
Listen up,
I started trying this lastnight and found it to be a life saver. While flying through on your swoop speeder bike and you spot a herd of Rancor. Throw your turn signal on, slow down to about 55mph then ease it on around to where your about 70m away.Get off of the bike, throw on /maskscent and then get back on your bike. Caution proceed slowly.
Get within 11meters on the bike to the Rancor. Get off of thebike once your in the proximity that your Sampling can begin. Click on the the Rancor of choice and then HURRY and click back on your bike and mount it. Quickly now, if the beasty gets mad your going to pay..... You don't have to keep your focus on the creature your sampling. You can be sitting down, standing up, Mounted on your bike ready to zooooooom off if he gets upset that your sticking needles in him. Once he gets mad, and he will just take off and he may get in one hit, but atleast your on your bike and won't get slaughtered like we usually do.

I haven't tried the bike trick, will have totry it.
I have a technique for sampling mutants and other big nasties that prevents about 99% of agros from becoming deaths. Get good stim packs. Carry some muon gold. Un-equip your weapon. walk up. If they break MS,stand still. If they agro, run towards steep hils or cliffs (burst isn't necessary, unless you have happened to draw a huge pack). Spam peace, and heal self. If they get lucky and start mind wounds, use the muon gold. It helps to have your escape route planned in advance.
In my experience, almost nothing will pursue more than 100 m if it doesn't get shot at. Most often, they give up, and hopefully stand still or start walking slowly back to camp. This is ideal - now you can try to sneak up on just one instead of 3-5.
The speder system is probably more effective though, because it seems likeyou could more quickly break into the center of a pack.
