Thread: Chef bio tissue madness
I have a limited amount of meat at my disposal. I can use that meat to make meds, creatures, tailor components or chef components. If you want me to use my time, factories, meat, etc. on chef components, then you will have to make it worth my while. Pretty simple, really.
And I wonder if those chefs that seem to want to price things based on number of factory runs are ready for me to quadruple the price of my stims because they require four runs?
Just as an add-on to the factory issue...
Chef items now have an incredibly low complexity, so they take easily a tenth of the time it takes for BEs to factory run tissues. My 1k run of Broad-Spectrum Nutrients (a medium tissue) takes a little over 2 days to run in my factory. The additives that are made from those take 5 hours to crate up, in the same factory. Most Chef items are in the same ballpark, taking 4-6 hours to produce even their most complex items. No offense, but don't even start with factory costs till you see how god-awfully long it takes to crate tissues.
As for Casks, 90% of the tailors I know are quite willing to make trim schematics for next to nothing, and trim takes 20k Fiberplast and 5k Inert Petro. Not exactly hard to come by. In the time it takes a chef to produce all the subs for a 1k run of brandy, the BE will still be trying to kick hisfactory to get his one run of tissues done.
Last but not least...meat. Used to be a Ranger till I got sick of the holo-BE madness, so I'm well aware of the demand. Finding good meat, much less stuff to make quality products takes a lot of time and/or cash. All the parts to Brandy have only one req...drop a harvester and wait for the materials to flow in. Constant supply. Tissue supplies are so sporadic because of the meat shortage, where 95% of chef supplies are constantly around. To make matters worse, Domestic meat (used in chef tissues) is only available from maybe a dozen critters, with only 2 of those being anywhere near large, so quality is horribly difficult to get unless you get a very lucky shift, and quantity is always an issue.
On patch day, I jumped online the minute my server came up. I fired up a crafting tool to look at the new schematics, and like everyone else, I thought "what the heck is Secret Research Data?" Anyway, I figured that at some time I'd get around to crafting some of those additives to give to a chef for them to play around with. That time came a lot sooner than I had expected. After being on for about 35 minutes or so, I got a /tell asking me "You a BE?" I was prepared for the usual "Can you make me a Kimo? What about a non-CH Rancor?", but after telling them that yes, I'm a Master BE, they replied "You're exactly the person I need to speak with. I'm a Master Chef." He asked if I could make some Broad Spectrum nutrients for him to experiment with. He came to my house, I crafted a few, and gave them to him. They took his brandy from +220 to +420, so he said he needed a LOT of these. He asked what it would take for a batch of 1000, and I said 60k flora and 20k meat. He tells me to trade with him, and he hands me 200k Flora and 80k Meat along with a million credits, and asks if I can make 3000 for him. So, considering that he supplied more than enough resources, I made a million credits off simply making three 1000-unit schematics and tying up my factories for a few days each. He said that between harvesting resources and chef sales, he rakes in over 2.5 million a week, and has no problem paying handsomely for someone to provide the services he needs in a timely fashion.
So, in doing the math, I sold him the tissues for 333.33 credits a piece. That's a lot less than I would normally sell my tissues for, but then again, I'm usually only selling a crate or two at a time, and have to supply my own resources.
