kaizoid,
That sounds pretty narrow-minded.
From my expereince, the one main reason people love a pet in a grp is to be able to pull singles from a mob (most of the time).
In a typical group doing missions on Dant, it is hard to see what other real benefit having a CH will bring.
By its self, yes it makes sense but if you look at the overall picture of where CHs fit into groups, to take this away takes away our most useful skill.
Our pets do not out-damage players, nor can they take arrgo off a player (99% of the time) once the player has attacked with high-damage hits. Pets take 15 secs typically to call, which makes them anti-Dant-mission group to a degree.
Considering the nerfs CH has suffered (like many professions), it does not make sense or even balance things out to do this.
Taking this away just removes one of the main reasons to be a CH.
So exactly what use is a CH in your option (apart from making BEs rich) once this goes?
We might as well get rid of CH if we carry on like this.

QFE!
The line "We might as well get rid of CH if we carry on like this" rings hollow in my ears. We might as well get rid of the BE creature maker too. The two are conjoined - we used to need each other. By the time a master Ch had hunted and tamed everything in the galaxy, decided from experience what pet was good and what wasn't...we turned to the BE to create even better versions of our favourites. Now, with cl=size (TOO big!) and no specials, making wild ones much more appealing to the working CH...BE pet makers may as well restrict themselves to providing lower level pets to the novice and non-ch. And there are always the stims....../yawn from my alt.
The CH has been hit terribly hard by the CU - first with the loss of our best pets, then with the total wreckage the AI code must be in as far as pathing, aggroing, obeying commands etc are concerned. We are becoming a very cynical bunch and the idea of buying new pets even now is worrying. BE can't craft the best yet, which means anything bought now is temporary.
I stupidly care for my virtual pets, and won't buy any until I can be sure I can keep them and they will be useful to me. Instead my alt makes a few level 70's for my friends and I - we select only the ones that are small and reasonably fast (Kima) and we have our trios of wild female nargs. If it wasn't for my alt making them, I wouldn't have any more BE pets until BE is unnerfed and CH made viable as a profession.

You send your pet into a mob. The mob aggros. Do all the animals in the mod attack your pet or do some of them attack you as well? This is what needs to be answered in test.
The notes say that when an animal is sent to attack, the mob becomes aggressive to the owner. It says if the animal is incapped or dies, the mob will attack the owner. If a pet attacks the lair, the mob will attack the owner. It does not say the animals only attack the owner when the pet is incapped or dies first.
It also says a pet can not pull a single from a mob unless it within aggro range. This also needs to be tested. Some believe a CH can still tell an animal to attack, which will send the critter a runnin' and when it gets within aggro range the wild animal will attack back. By telling the pet to follow, or return, the wild animal will follow, in effect pulling a single from the group. Does the single return alone or does it bring all its buddies? If thebuddies also come running do they only attack the pet or do they also attack the owner?
Others read the notes to say a pet cannot be sent on the attack at all unless it is within aggro range. Combine this with the fact that the entire mob will become aggressive to the owner and you have a pretty nasty situation, considering the owner is also within aggro range.
As is typical, the notes are vague and have to be tested. We all know a glaring bug will also be discovered and /bugged but will go live anyway. In the meantime the tailors are still sitting on their hands waiting for their turn.
Careful what you wish for. You might just get it. ![]()
Well the official notes are up. And, to no ones surprise, the pet changes are still in tact with no defensive changes given to creature handlers.
Pets draw aggro onto the owner and the owner cannot defend himself without having taken some other combat skills. This begs the question; if I am going to take up another combat class why not just give up CH and master the other class I must take anyway? I get both offensive weapons and I get armor with the other class. I get neither with creature handler. To boot, a rifle will outdamage a pet any day, any time, any where. Pets are nothing more than a huge liability now.
Good luck selling your pets if this truly goes live. But hey, you still have those medical supplies right? ![]()
