I actually had a great time last night. I put up a bunch of cheap stuff at inflated prices. Boughttwo loads of very cheap furniture. Created a good spamming macro. Finally trained (I had xp maxed). Realized I need to raise a few prices and crank out some more stuff. I am creating a list of things I want to have stocked at all time.

By the way, does anyone have a list of the category break down that vendors ad the bazaar use?

Just my thoughts

I've read this statement before and find it completely ridiculous. Answer me this, how did you get the 5000 merchant exp needed to become a novice merchant? That’s right, with your business3 vendor from the artisan tree.

You think the merchant class is broken? How broken do you think the entire business tree would be without the business 3 vendor?

I think that if we cut off buisnees 3 and said that you have to have novis merchant there would be less shops and it would leave room for the people who are trying to work hard to become a successful merchant.

Look, I’m not telling anyone how to play this game. I'm a master weaponsmith, and master artisan. I started out with the business 3 vendor. I hated it. Going novice Merchant was a no brainier for me. I run my shop from a small house. I currently use 2 vendors. Currently I'm 3001 in merchant with over 60k exp that I plan in investing into efficiency. Who knows, maybe some day I will master merchant, the exp seems to keep rolling in.

However, never in the entire time ive been playing this game has a merchant approached me as said, "Hey, I’m opening up a shopping mall near xxxxx-city on xxxxx-planet. I've seen your weapons and they seem pretty good. I'd like to dedicate a vendor to carrying a line of your weapons in my mall. Would you be interested?

You have to understand that as a weaponsmith I have been selling my stuff since day 1. First with shout tells from the crafting stations in coronet. Later, people would constantly ask me for weapons. Finally decided to open a store when I needed to start making factory components. You cannot expect me not to sell my weapons from my workshop/store/home. However, what I don't want to do it try to manage selling my weapons in multiple locations. That’s the merchants/master merchants job.

Also, I don't think that merchant should be a stand alone class. You would need a large amount of capital to purchase my weapons to initially stock your vendors. So having some other profession as a basis to generate that cash may be a necessity.

But how do you get to novice merchant without at least 1 vendor huh?

You need the vendor from business 3 on order to get the 5000 xp for novice merchent. If it was removed, no-one could become merchants.

For the one billionth time, all other elite-artisan classes take general crafting XP to reach novice. So novice merchant should be no different. Or are you also arguing that novice weaponsmith should only take weapon crafting XP? etc.

Yes, the Artisan vendor should be removed. Merchant is the last Advanced profession whose XP can be gained from something in the Artisan tree. They made personal harvesters give GCXP. Novice Merchant should require GCXP just like everyone else.

I recently became a Master Merchant on Starsider. I put up my pretty Protocol Droid vendor who can't ad bark (?....I don't get it). I'm a Master Artisan as well as an armorsmith, so I sell those items plus architect deeds from my brother. I have all of my vendors in two houses near the same place because I am waiting.

It has become a waiting game for our profession. We have no idea what changes are going to be made, if any at all, nor do we know when they are going to be made. We have heard nothing since the "Great Vendor Nerf" posting a while ago aside from a "we heard you" that wasn't even posted in our professions forum.

I took Master for the fancy title and because it lends credence to my words on the profession since I have "Been there, done that, got the T-shirt".

I have asked many people to sell there items. Only one said yes. The rest had there vendor from artisan and didn't need my services. One went so far as to say our profession is uneccessary because of this.

My solution was simple; move the bazaar fee reductions down into the Artisan Business branch and move the vendor and hiring up. Restrict the maximum sell price amount so that beginning Merchants can't sell high ticket items and keep people from droping the 6 skill points to get a vendor.

The title for Artisan Business IV should be Salesman, not Businessman. They aren't good enough or specialized enough to be anything else.

I put up a medium house to get the extra space but, oops, they Nerfed that without telling anyone. It is not a medium house anymore, its just another style of small house. There is no benifit to it and I really need the room to store my wares. Lets not forget that as a Master Merchant, I can not place 6 vendors in different locations on my own, I have to beg others to let me use their house as my store, but they don't need me because...yep, they already have a vendor.

Bottom line? Our profession is broken and desperately needs fixed, but because their are so few of us in this profession compared to other broken professions, we wait.

We asked for that retired badge in Beta, but never got a response. Too bad, would have made my 620 apprenticeship XP good for something....

When you have a target (to get to master merchant) I get the fun out of getting the exp needed to reach the goal. Now that goal has been achieved im finding it hard to have fun with the merchant prof. Maybe when player mounts and citys come in to affect then all the millions I make will mean something untill then im getting bored now with logging on and spending an hour setting up my vendors/instalations and having nothing to spend my credits on.

Im normally the sort of person that likes the crafting side of rp games there just seems to me to be nothing to aim for atm. If you still havent got to master yet you will not feel the same.

In respect to the comments how do you expect to get to novice merchant if you dont have vendor exp from artisan I dont know, I just think that if it was possible the merchant line would be a more needed class if they were the only ones to have vendors Im not payed to come up with the solution. Even though its a good point and I never thought of it.

You might not even get paid if you sell via vendors. So I'd have to say no, at this point merchant is not worth it. The only benefit is that xp is so easy (empty NPCs will get you to master after while).

I've had merchants approach me multiple times in this way. I'm currently stocking 3 stores in addition to my own. And I've seen a lot of very successful stores.

I agree that master merchant doesn't offer much that makes it worth training, and for most doing part of merchant is just as worthwhile. This is bad. However, I think being a merchant is very fun if you go into it with the right attitude. I have a small little shop, I bring in a good income, I have fun dressing up my vendors and making them say silly things, and my favorite part of the day is when I realize I'm selling out of fishing poles or something else equally silly .

It varies from person to person. Some can't handle the grind or the always hunted part. Me? I love playing my jedi, always will.
