Thread: Devs, Fellow BEs: vehicles will decimate our mounts...What are your thoughts?

I could be wrong, but it is my impression that all these different pets are counted separately in the data pad. <deletia> Non-chs will have the two live pet slots available. It is my understanding that everyone is allowed 5 droids in their datapad right now, and I have seen nothing to suggest that this is going away. Pretty sure you can have at least 3 faction pets in your datapad.
You are correct about how things are now...however...the changes are on the way, and every pet (faction, animal, or droid) will count towards that limit with the new patch. So, in fact, non-CHs will have to prioritize their datapad space. Also, non-CHs will only be able to have 1 pet out a time...no more hunting with an animal, a droid, and a faction pet. :/
It needs to be called in ca city, camp, etc.
There are issues where crafted and Jawa items aren't the same.

I think you are getting confused between datapad limits and called limits. Certainly, unless things have changed this patch will bring in the only one pet called of any kind (bio/droid/faction) change that was indicated a few weeks ago, but I certainly have not seen anything that even remotely suggests that datapad limits are going to rolled up into a single number. Apart from anything else, it simply doesn't make sense with CH getting more pets based on skills.

Personally, I don't think there's going to be much of a decimation of BE mounts. I've had very few mount sales, as every CH on the server was standing near the banks spamming "200K for a fully trained mount" after the patch, and were getting the absurd amounts of money they were asking for. Considering we provided a piece of meat that needed to be grown first, the bulk of the business seemed to go to the CHs.
Rather, I pity the fools who spent that much for a giant turkey.
But, that is a GOOD thing.
Don't get me wrong, as a BE/MCH I should be on your end of the argument, but really, how will it hurt us? Once everyone has a mount (like right about now) the demand will/has decreased. I defy anyone to tell me that they are selling mounts like mad right now. And given the deterioration rates on mounts (next to none, especially if you never use them for combat), the business is only going to go down. Even without vehicles, no BE is going to pull in millions of credits just by selling mounts made with yard trash DNA like we did when they were first introduced.
On the other hand, vehicles lend an essential --- bear with me, I am going to use a buzzword --- 'Star Warsy' atmosphere to a game that needs it.
I am looking forward to the new cloning system, and I think there is going to be some limited market for new non-CH pets (including mounts). I also can't wait to put a CL 60 DNA template into a choku shell... MUTANT CHOKU's WILL RULE THE WORLD!!!
I sell mounts like mad.
I make them, grow them, train them and sell them. I have my inventory anda small house packed with kaadu and spats. As I sell one I tame one and let it grow. I have 6 spaces all growing at different intervals. Soon as I pull the mount out someone is asking to buy it. It helps that I name them all For-Sale ![]()
Vehicles will definitely put the kabosh on mounts. Everyone is going to want one just like everyone wanted a mount. Some people are actually holding off purchasing a mount in hopes of getting a speeder. Initially there will be a hugeprice attached to speeders. People will be selling them for insane amounts of money just like what happened with mounts. Buyers will have to ask themselves is this bike worth the money when I can buy a spat for a lot less. As the price for vehicles comes down the mount business will dwindle.
Having said all that, there will still be people who can't afford a speeder and will settle for a kaadu instead. ![]()
Not sure that's really true though. One BIG difference is in the relative availability between mounts and speeders. I mean to get a mount you HAVE to go to a CH. They are the only ones that can sell them to you (trained) and the only have a very small number that they can have ready to go in their inventory. Even though the number of CH's is large relative to all other classes, it's still small in the overall scope of SWG. However, speeders you're talking anyone with engineering skill can make em. That means all architects, droid engineers, weaponsmiths, armorsmiths, master artisans, and lots of dabblers. Hell, any one of us could grab 10k or steel or whatever and probably grind out the skill needed to make a speeder in an hour or so, make a few crates of em, then give up the skill. The demand side will be the same as mounts, but the supply will be much much much much greater.
