Thread: test
sorry this is just a test. I've had so many issues with formatting today. grrrrr This is really for the jedi forum but I didn't know where else to do a test...
After compiling all the data from the first “Top Five Issues” thread and countless others, below are the top five most talked about issues for Jedi. These have been compiled in an effort to get a developer response on the issues, either through a post or though a much needed Jedi correspondent. While I may or may not agree with some of these points, they are compiled 100% from user posts and the frequency of those posts.
1.) Lightsaber Issues:
a.) Decay – The decay of a lightsaber seems to be in line with all other weapons. However, due to the speed with which a lightsaber swings, as well as theingredients required for crafting, and the xp requirements for the overall profession, the general consensus is that they decay too fast. One lightsaber cancost millions yet repairing them is hit or miss. Furthermore, the Jedi FAQstates:
“Can lightsabers get old and "break"?
We will have item decay in the game, and this will affect lightsabers as well. However, aJedi has the knowledge necessary to maintain a lightsaber, preventing such decay.”
“Hit or miss” repair does not seem like the “knowledge” that the FAQ references. Obi-Wan did notsay to Luke: “It’s your father's lightsaber...but he used it too much and it’sbroken.” Lightsabers are supposed to last.
b.) Lightsaber Crafting – Force crystals are completely undesired for lightsaber crafting. Lightsabers made with crystals can have speeds as slow as one swing per 7seconds! The majority of people who did the work to become force sensitive donot think this is acceptable. Krayt pearls seem to be the only acceptable component. They cost very large sums of money, and with the current 300k HAM Krayt on Test Center a lot of Jedi are simply “freaking out” for lack of a better term. The pearls will cost even more, and using the crystals will make for underpowered Jedi. Furthermore, the frequency of critical failures is unacceptable when taking all theseother variables into consideration. The stakes are too high. It is “hard” in a way that is frustrating, not fun.
c.) Lightsaber Damage Type – A lightsaber is a pure beam of energy. The tone fromthe players is that having a lightsaber do kinetic damage is silly. Any other damage type is preferable. Also, having an AP2 rating seems odd as lightsabers have melted through thick steel doors in multiple movies. An AP3 or even AP4 rating simply makes a lot more sense.
2.) Terrain Negotiation: A Jedi must have terrain negotiation. Jedi are the most powerful types of beings in the galaxy, and they cannot move up a hill? The lack of this mod makes playing hard. But hard as in “laborious”, not “fun hard”.
3.) Defense Mods: Novice brawler has more defensive abilities than a Jedi. No dodge mods, block rarely works, no state change mods. With the increased TEF on test this will become a major issue as more Jedi will be forced to pvp. Jedi are able to “sense” danger, and that implies having defense mods. If a Jedi can sense a KD coming, why would he/she not move out of the way? Mod types requested include KD, Dizzy, and Stun. It would even make sense that a Jedi would have defense to any type of damage that he can inflict. Understanding of how to knock someone down implies that you would also know how to defend yourself against a knockdown attack.
4.) Game Rules/Visibility Issues: At the moment, we are playing a game in which we do not know the rules. This is unacceptable. We do not know if JUST force powers cause visibility, or saber specials, or even simply taking out a saber in front of others may add to it. Many have requested a visibility meter (which would make sense in the continuity of Jedi being able to “sense” danger). Many have requested that the Bounty Hunter that has a mission for a Jedi is TEF’d to the Jedi (which would also fit into the continuity of being able to “sense” danger). We are flying blind and we need to know the basic rules of the game. We also need some sort of clue that we are in imminent danger.
5.) Permadeath Issues: The general consensus it that permadeath is not the way to make Jedi “hard”. Other options discussed have been xp loss, skill box loss, stat loss, etc. But the solution is where opinions differ. The reason that most people at least feel that permadeath is not the way to go has to do with a number of other game issues that make staying alive impossible.
These include:
- Client Crashes
- Impossible server lag
- A bug where a Jedi title will appear above your head at logon no matter what you have your preferences set to. This makes you a target before you have even loaded.
- Lack of defense mods. (Bounty hunters love to spam knockdown).
Personally, I was victim of a recent bug where I was literally stuck in the Coronet starport. No one could leave. It was late and I had to log. Of course, when I logged on the next day in the middle of a high traffic area, my title was up. There happened to be a BH mission for me at the time. By the time I loaded there were Bounty Hunters already looking for me. And they knew where to find me due to the nice man shouting “JEDI IN STARPORT” (thanks to the tag that shows up no matter what you do), it wasn’t long before I was down. Humorously, as I cloned, my client crashed!
It seems that the problem people have with permadeath is that it makes for too frustrating of an experience. Fearing death as much as Jedi do limits the ability to experience much of the game. Different options for a replacement of permadeath can be discussed, but currently it is just not working out. It's not that it is too hard... it's too frustrating.
"Too frustrating" is the theme of this top five. I don't think anyone really wants a free ride... they just don't want to get rageful at a "video game" on a regular basis.
One other note: There has been request after request after request for a separate Jedi Only board. A place when Jedi can be discussed freely by those who experience it. Another frequent request is a Jedi Correspondent. Both of these are a must andwe hope to see them soon.
Also, I will try to have a separate thread with a listing of all Jedi bugs within the next couple days.
This document can certainly be updated if need be. All constructive posts are welcome.
And as always,
May The Force Be With You
