Thread: If you run a BE shop, how did you get it started?

I can tell you on Tarq the pet market has really slowed down. The main sells i have had lately have either been people returning to the game after a leave of absence or referals from other people. Also, for some reason, I constantly get tells asking for banthas. Not sure what the draw is to these animals???

Best bet would be to start a relationship with a Tailor and a Chef. This will provide you the constant credit flow you need. Make a few pets here and there to keep a nice selection on your vendor. Focus on cat skins with a few dog types sprinkled in there. Also make sure you can keep some Pet Stims in stock.

my shop is just 2km from theed, so i sell a lot of stims and other products on the bazaar in theed with a message in the info box about how i provide a wide variety of items from the BE line and give the wp

i also send a follow-up e-mail to the people who buy from me on the bazaar and even a "thank you" e-mail from the people who buy from my vendor

i never get a "STOP E-MAILING ME" e-mail....... i usually get a "thank you, i would like to order: _____"

just don't spam them constantly, be polite, keep your vendor stocked (even if you sell nothing) and sell many of your items that are 6k or less on the bazaar with a good advertisement for yourself with the waypoint for your vendor

To slightly change tack a little, how do you sell pets/tissues if you don't have SP to put up a vendor? Pets I will make purely for my own use (and maybe the odd custom order), but I am shortly going to do a run of Petstims, but nowhere to sell them. I had thought of putting some on Bazaars on the adventure / hunting planets, with a note along the lines of: "If you like this product, I have crates of the same or similar for sale, please send a tell to Arm , or email to Arm in-game. Thank you for buying my product". Has anyone tried this approach and how did you fare?

Thanks for the replies folks. Excellent stuff here for getting started.

I've got another question though. Right now I'm only at 1-0-4-3 on the BE tree, and have yet to make a pet over level 50. Is there much of a market for pets under level 50? Some of the ones I do make are darned nice, but I have no idea what people are looking for other than the occasional "Lookin for BE to make me a level 60+ gurreck w/ 60 kinetic & 12k HAM!" posts on these boards. For my Master CH character I have purchased a handful of sub-level 50 pets, but the majority of what I have is tamed.

Thanks again for this great info! I'll probably be setting up shop in the next few days. I'm in the process of collecting a lot of DNA on Endor and documenting all of the pet combines/experimentation that I do. Definitely looking forward to seeing how things go with a merchant!

Nost of the pets I sell are in the 20-35 region as trio's or duo's since there isnt much to gain going higher in CL with bio pets

Actually, there's not much of a market for pets *over* CL 35. I think I've sold a grand total of maybe a dozen over CL 35 pets and probably a couple hundred under. And most of the CL 70's that I sell are from customers who already had bought a couple of 35's and wanted to "try out" a CL 70 mainly for the novelty of it. So no worries at all there.

The bigger issue I think you are going to have is not CL, it's armor and also the skins. Probably 90% of the pets I sell over CL 20 have armor, and probably 75% of them are cats like gurrecks, razorcats or nargalachs. I'm not sure at what point in the dna sampling and experimentation tree that it becomes possible to make armored pets (perhaps you are at that point now) but until a BE can do that, I think he's mainly going to be stuck serving the niche of CL 10-20 level pets, which is a sizeable market btw.

Thanks for the info on the pet market! That's good news, at least for me at this point on the way through BE anyway.

And you raise a good point about armour ArthurDent. I can make pets with armour, but it takes DNA samples that have around 500+ fortitude to do it. Or else some 300+ DNA with a streak of all great/amazing success on the experimentation.

The idea of selling pets in tandem is something I am familiar with. I picked up a pair of bearded jaxes for my CH that are level 28. Cute little critters. But aye, that's definitely a good idea to keep in mind when creating pets.

I think the only thing I still need to learn is how to make level 10 pets with stats that will get the interest of potential customers. Is it easiest to use some good DNA (i.e. mereks, BMBs, etc.) along with one or two low level creature DNA samples? Or does taking the sample of clones for one or two generations work better?

Thanks again! This is great!
