Oh and following on - even at 15cpu for meat. I'd make 640cr per unit - or about 640K clear profit on a single full run at 1K per unit.

You need to check your math. At 15 cpu for the meat and 5 cpu for the flora, the cost for just the raw materials on the Broad Spectrum Nutrients is 600 credits each. That doesn't count the costs of my house, factory, power, vendors, etc. At 1K per crate, I very much doubt you are making any profit. You are certainly not making any more than you could from just selling the resources.

My time is valuable. It take me forever to get large amounts of very high quality resources together. No, I'm not in a guild, and I don't wish to be in one. I charge for my time and effort, too.

Not to start another flame war with the Chefs, but you really should consider how much profit they are making on the Brandy, too. About the cheapest BE Brandy I've seen, 6K percask, would still yield the Chef about 3K in profit per each cask. That's 75K per crate! This is assuming that they paid 50K per crate of the BSNs.

I think that 50K per crate is a fair price. I could see giving a discount to a good customer. The BE still only makes about 25K per crate profit, which is about 1/3 what the Chef makes, and that's if the Chef sells at 150K per crate, which is lower than the norm.

And if you don't believe that we have to pay 15 cpu for the meat, check out my thread on Tarquinas Galaxy Trade, where I am told that I really should offer 50 cpu if I want anyone to hunt for me!

Flora costs less than 1cpu to farm so don't know where you get 5cpu from. I totalled it at 1cpu to cover costs of the factory runs. Meat I usually pay 6cpu for from guildies so the profit is even higher. Remember with meat we can have anything so 15cpu is really the max we should need to pay as the ranger can probably provide from his general stocks rather than having to harvest specific meats like avian etc.

I know some chefs do tend to push profits a bit high, however I know of two on Chimaera who most definatly don't. Both charge under 160K per crate of brandy.

High quality flora regularly sells at 5 cpu and up. We need to value the resources by what they would be worth if we sold them, not what they actually cost us. Otherwise, you will be wasting your time to even make a product at all. Just sell them on the bazaar and come out ahead.

Even though we can use any type of meat, it still has to be high quality. The Ranger wants to hunt what he can sell for the most profit, which is understandable. That means competing for their time against Armorsmithsand Chefs, who can pay 50 cpu if they really need something.

The figures I quoted were for a Chef who pays 50K per crate of BSN and sells his crate of casks of Brandy for 150K. If the BE only charges 25K per crate, and the Chef charges 160K per crate, the Chef is making a profit of at least 110K per crate! And that is using the 5 cpu figure for his floracosts!

I don't know of any profession that sells their product at less than double the market value of their raw materials. I don't see why it isn't fair for the BE to make a profit, too!

well in my opinion your are quite lucky on your server.
on kauri, under 15 cu anyone will laught at you.
doc are paying 100 cu for meat and even chef offer 25 cu for meat ( insect, or carnivore ).
As for FLora farm, how would you like to get them if you have factory, its less lots to drop farm and well a heavy factory run wil burn 90k flora, so if you can drop 5 heavy flora on a good spawn it will be 3 or 4 run to empty all your stock.

Well you can be very happy to be into a guild where you can use the other to get low prices, but if you are not guilded or dont like the idea to pay very low some of your friend, you should pay more.

I have 3 Factories and use normally 4-5 flora farms. Stocks build up plenty quick enough .

Regarding guild prices. For the most part the meat sales are a way of them easilly making extra money from them levelling. Your talking a group of people harvesting small quantities as part of their normal play and benefitting from it ( they may target specific creatures but generally they don't have to go out and hunt for a specific resource as such ). Prices on Chimaera can be insane ( 250cpu for avian recently ) but generally withint guilds are sensible.

I have 60 crates of 88+ I sell each crate for 55k a piece. I do pretty well with my meds and I have a lot of customers. Chefs that I work with sell their crates of brandy for around 140k a crate and up. I think a lot of the people who think they we are sellin them for too much aren't BE's. If they were they'd be happy makin money by underselling the rest of us. True I do sell to bulk customers and guild members cheaper but I couldn't see it feesible to sell for as low as 25k a crate. I'd be losing lots of money.
