Thread: DNA sampling high lvl creatures

My point is that ultimately when it comes down to it are we seeing some bio-engineers gaining an unfair advantage over others which cannot be pursued by everyone and isn't an exploit? No, we're seeing a change in our profession whereby the bio-engineers with maskscent have an advantage over those without it. ...<edited>
If you say that this is 'forcing' bio-engineers to take a form of maskscent or become a smuggler than I say in a way yes, if you want to do the best you can you need to be a ranger/scout to sample from the CL60+ critters since they are all aggro. <edited>
I'm sorry Tal-N, I must have been less than clear. Definite case of crossed-wires here. I was pointing out that someone complaining that we used to be able to sample from high level critters, especially our own home made kimogila, is a valid complaint. My impression was that complaint was based soley on the sample dna skill, especially given his statement that he was not counting the times his scent mask broke as failures. It seemed to me you were dismissing his concern that one of our skills (an entirebranch in fact) had been ninja-nerfed.I felt it strange that you seemed tobe trying to silence his concerns when at the same time you signature wasabout the fact our proffession has been silenced through a lack of correspondent.
I actually feel the same way about BE's who complain about needing scout skill to be better BE's as I do about combat types who compain about needing CH skills to be better combat types. I have in the past stated that I though thatexplore 4 was almost a requirementof the class. I stand by that statement, however I do not consider it a complaint. Iget explore 4 on just about every character I make, because it is so useful. My weaponsmith/architect even has explore3 (I'm still working on 4) just to make harvestor runs go faster. It can be very difficult for us to do the job without that skill and as a result I tend to let any new BE know this when they ask how to get started. If they ask about making pet-stim I also mention that need for doctor created sub-components and the fact that as a grinding item they are inefficient. (Mostly the wrong type of XP)
i agree with tal. i dont think this is a bad thing necesarily (no sampling from kimo's). i DONT think it was because of the CL though (70 for the normal ones) because ive been sampling DNA from my favorite source creatures in the CL 80 range for some time(still getting 12500 HAM600 dmg gurrecks). we have been told that all DNA will have the same stats from now on (in other words low lvl creaturewill have all low stats in their DNA, high lvl DNAwill be high) so the difficuty of the creature will have bearing on the quality of the DNA (maybe not more than before, but it will at least be more apparent),
the only reason i can think of to disallow sampling from kimo's is to keep us from giving our clones their strong AoE special attack (obviously speculation since they havent told us how that aspect of cloning will work yet)....
...OR they just screwed up and its a bug.
anyway, point is: its not a nerf! just find different creatures to sample from. im having a much easier time sampling the creatures i use now then i ever did trying to get kimo DNA.
other point: if you are having trouble getting close to aggro creatures, make some +maskcent (scent neut) tissues and have a tailor friend make u some clothes out of it - problem solved!
OK, some how this post went way off topic. Let me explain what I was looking for. I was trying to find out what is the highest current lvl animal we can sample at this time. is the new dna sampling maxing out at lvl 70? or higher. from what I found on dathimare was that enraged rancors (lvl 75) can no longer be sampled. Atleast yesterday I coudn't sample them, but 4 days ago I could. Mutant rancors can still be sampled as normal with the same 30-40% chance of failure. as I had 4 days ago.
What I was asking the bio-eng community was what high lvl animals they have been sampling from? this is mean of the most recently samples from the last 2 days. If peaple could list out what animals, what lvl and where they sampled it that great.
That was the information I was looking for, I understand this post will bring up issues about the new changes, and aboutmaskscent. sadly I dont care about that right now. i just wanted information on what was relivent to the creature creation system that is in place now.
If anyone wishes to post info on what i asked please do so. If you want to talk about issues with the new chages, maskscent, or Dath insect meat. please make a new post or use a different one. Thanks you
Sowi

I don't see the fact we cannot sample from as high a level creatures is not a nerf, how the hell can it be a nerf when infact it's not causing us any problems nor does it prevent us from doing something we always could

Well a nerf is removing or lowering an already established ability. The only real problems i have encountered are that we cannot sample or kimo's anymore, nor will players by them for sampling.
I was sampling rancors in the mutant rancor cave the other day, and got lots of nice DNA samples. Fortunately young rancors don't deathblow, so I always start with the big rancors. I also never sample unless I have a burstrun handy.
I got four or five samples from a gnarled rancor before he died, and then sampled each of the youngs. Two died, one attacked me. I bled him, shot him and healed myself, until finally incapped. By the time I'd come to, he'd bled to death. I still got my DNA sample, though.
I've never successfully approached a kimo, though. They aggro too easily. I have sampled kimo hatchlings sucessfully. I'm not yet Master, BTW. 25K XP remaining... ![]()
