On my server, at least, I could probably make as much money as I could gather meat for with BE. At the moment, I push about 1.5 - 2.0 million profit a week. It isn't too hard to keep up with the meat requirements if you get a spawn on something large - but thisround, it has been Corellian Insect Meat = ugg. and Yavinian Avian = not a whole lot better.
I am personally learning that, given moderate playing times, say, 2 to 3 hoursa night, a BE witha drive to hunt, a nice a harvesting droid, and some good veghash, as well as an Elite combat class, can support3 or 4 Chefs depending on their volume. You will probably have to stop making pets if you go this route though, not enough timein the day and whatnot. If you want to make more, youare going to have to buy the meat, and sinceit can get expensive to purchase the good stuff off of the bazaar, you are going to want to contract out with aScout or Ranger for a decent rate. Your cost will determine what you can pay. I can pay 20CPU and still make a nice profit, especially since I am still hunting part of that myself. I keep one Scout on "retainer" so to speak, I just email him and tell him what I need, he hunts until I ask him to stop.....I haven't asked him to stop yet...heh, heh. This route can get stressful, especially when meat becomes rare. Sample order from one of my Chefs: I need 500 BSN's ASAP - needed to restock, and 500 each of the Smalls and Larges when you can get them. The meat required for that? 27,500 units. Atan average of 25 units per creature....oh those poor, poor Whisper Birds. Granted, this is a very large order, but it can happen, from one Chef.
Of course, your pricing will affect your profits, but you can't get profits if you don't have materials, so I think that, in essence, there is probably a cap on BE profits, or at least a point of diminishing returns once you start having to purchase most of the meat resources due to time contraints.
All in all though, I love the profession, and love being a "supplier". Profits are secondary to fun for me, but I do fairly well for myself I think.
