I've found it can be rather profitable as well. I just need to get me a client base. I have a chef in my guild but she doesn't usually need a steady flow of additives. I sell at half the cost to her.
I've heard out and about that 40k is the going rate for a crate of any one additive.
I've not really done anything with BE pets as my other character is a CH and I'm not sure how to make a good one for that character yet.
I'm having pricing issues as I don't want to undercut the going rate on the main market. I want to be fair.
But with some potential, BE can be very profittable. And I harvest all my own goods (flora) and my other charater is the fighter so he goes out and gathers meats hides eggs milk etc
