I actually sampled a bull rancor to death. I've only done it once but I couldn't help but do the happy dance. The other people in my group kinda hope for aggro since they get to blam the critter while it bites my head off.

LOL! I ended up with a totally black mind bar. 1000 points. Took Helen (novice entertainer) a VERY long time to heal me. She wore out her dance shoes.

Is there a resource that will tell me whatCL you can sample at each DNA Sampling skill level? Or is it simple -- your DNA Sampling level indicates the highest CL you can sample from?

Your sampling level determines what level creature you can sample from.

And you need master scout to see what level you are looking at.

I am a master BE with 70mask scent. This is how i sample bull rancors....

I see a bull rancor. I mask scent. I run up to it, i sample.

What i've found is that if you run right up to it, it gives it less time to unmask you (thats the only explanation i can give for why my ranger friend walks slowly and gets unmasked and i run up to the thing and am safe)
