Thread: pricing for animal

I found a super easy way to price pets, everyone I have sold to told has me that it is quite fair. I simply charge 1k per creature level. CL takes into account all of the resitsts, ham, damage, etc... perfect weighted pricing guide, inexpensive at 5k for level 5 mounts and you never have to pay more than 75k even for the highest level pet...

Hope this helps!

I use something similar to Attmans system. I currently charge 500 credits per CL, once I can make over CL30 creatures I'm changing it to cl11-25 500c/cl, cl26-50 1000c/cl, and cl51+ 1500c/cl. The prices seem fair to me, and it is easy to do, no writing down 50 stats to enter into the becalc. Occasionally I'll tack on a few credits (around 1000)for a nice special like strong poison, especially on lower level creatures.

While you're on the subject of ethics, how ethical is it to "price dump" do you think? Pet's may be "worthless" to you, but not everyone thinks that way (though a lot more do since the "revamp", but thats another issue). They're not just my "bead and butter", they keep me alive when I go hunting. That's worth a LOT morethan 15k...

People may charge millions for pets, but not if they are using the standard "BECalc.ini" which caps out around 300kfor an absolute monster of a pet, with most CL35-70 pets falling around the 50-140k region. Considering a good suit of armor will set you back10-20 times that, and thata goodweapon will cost you around the same price range, I think it's a fair price.

The program also scales accourding to the quality of the pet, so for lower HAM pets the price will be cheaper but it will ramp up the price as the pet's HAM/Resists get better reflecting the use of better (Mutant/Merek/etc)DNA.Collectingthat type ofDNA may be considered "free"in your mind, but it's a two day trip for meand includesa lot of outlay in travel, repairs, consumableand replacement of equipment. If I only charged 15k a pet it wouldn't take very long before I couldn't even afford to get to Endor or Dathomir

And as to your comment about BE tissues making Chef/Tailoritems too expensive, I really have to wonder at how much BE work you've actually done, or if you've actually researched into it at all.Ask the Chefs why they sell BE VB for 350kwhile non-BE VB for 75k. Considering most BE's in here sell BSN for between 25-50k, (some) Chefs make 235k from a 40k outlay....thats PER CRATE, not per factory run...even a "fair" Chef that charges around 200k is making a really good profit from us.

Tailor tissues are the same thing. Most BE's charge between 1-3k per tissue, so if you see a 120k shirt somewhere, it's more than likelynot the BE's fault.

If this post is anything to go by, I'd say you've been snubbed by those communities more for being pharisaical than heretical.

AlanjaAngeli wrote:

Wow. That answers my question of why other BE's seemed to be so overpriced.

I took up Creature Handler before BE, and had a hard time finding creatures that were not really expensive. Even after becoming a BE, I could not see why they were so over-priced - I mean, I collected my own materials, never bought much in the way of needed meats and stuff. Sure, I've dropped 200k on a pair of high capacity floral farms, but that's it really.

I won't use that calculator, or really change my prices. I see no point in charging insane amounts for something that I got for free - or got paid to get when running missions. Somewhere on my server, there is another creature handler just starting out, getting frustrated with the fact that any good pet is costing them 50K+; there is a master CH out there cursing their skill level because level 70 light armour pets are a million or so credits, and never seem quite worth it after getting them. It's not fair to them.

If we're charging a lot for our pets, our schematics, and our tissues, we're really only hurting ourselves by inflating our own economies. But think about it - if we're charging insane prices for pets, that's going to jack up the price of meat, hide and milk that a CH gathers, which hurts us. And I don't know about the rest of you, but I use Vasarian Brandy over Muon Gold, and if we BE's are charging a lot for our suppliments, Brandy is going to be ungodly expensive.

This was something I was chatting about to an aspiring BE, a Chef and a new CH. All of us agreed that if BEs in general dropped their price, then a lot of things that are really expensive on our server would probably drop in price - even if just one or two BEs did it, and got one or two tailors and chefs to do it, then the rest of the server would need to or risk loosing business.

But the chances of anyone in this game giving up their inflated prices for things they got basically for free are nil, and people like me who point this all out only get branded as some sort of heretic and snubbed by the community. It's already happened a couple of times in game, which is really sad.

Ethics and video games never work well though, I guess I should just get used to it.

I've said it before, and I will repeat it untill everyone gets it.

Deciding on price based on CL is just plain wrong. Its the stats that matter (and the time spent to gather the DNA), then CL matters a little if you are making duos or trips.

And you need to take everything into account. HAM, Armour, ALL Resists, Damage, Attack Speed, Specials etc.

But if you want to sell 11k HAM, Light Armour, 60% Kinetic, 450 Damage lvl 30 pets for 30k, be my guest, but I'll take 300-350k for him, and it will be sold fast.

Prices vary server to server, just keep in mind the calculator is only a guide.

I am not judging anyone just pointing out something from the customer prospective.

Many of you rationalize charging huge sums of money for these pets that often don't cost anywhere near your sales price to put together. Some say that a good suit of armor costs 300-400K so my pet should to... or a good weapon is selling for 1mil or more. Well, I would never pay a million much less 100K fora weapon. I can find good weapons for 20K. They work well for me. Same goes for pets. There is no way I will pay 400-600K for a CL70 pet. I might pay 100K for a real nice one. But that's it. You may have some business at those prices. Hell, Ferrari sells a few cars too. But imagine how many they would sell at 30-50K instead of 100-200K.

(Before you go comparing and conrasting Ferraris and BE pets... they are way different. i am just talking about price points here)

I think paying a realistic price based on what it costs you to produce the product and how much effort it takes is fair. When I do crafting, that is how I price my things. Sometimes that is more than the standard, but often, it is less.

I will continue to hunt with my tamed Rancor and Toxic Merek Battle Lords before I drop 200+K on a BE pet. I can get those pets in a few minutes work and they are just about as good as anything costing 200K.

Frankly I am suprised people will pay 600K for a CL70 pet or Millions for a weapon. How much more are you REALLY getting for that premium price?

Actually, CL takes very littleof a pets "worth"into account. The following gives the reason (as an example only):

CL 10 = 100 damage, 40 resists, 1000 HAM

Therefore:

CL 10 can also equal 20 damage, 40 resists 3000 HAM

Thats because damage is a factor in the CL calculation the game makes. Drop the damage, and you can raise the HAM or resists. Most people don't care a lot what damage the pet does because they take a combat class to actually do the damage, so they just want a pet that can go the distance in a fight (for them Health and Kin resist are all thats important).

Armor can also go on a clone as low (or so I've heard) as CL 16. A pet at that level will be factors better than an AR0 pet. There are also a lot of posts in these forums where Sub10's can have 8k Health and 40-60 Kin resist. A pet like that(whether it's bugged or not) is worth a lot more than a Sub10 made from Dwarf Nuna DNA thats 900 Health.

If the Dev's ever manage to iron out the issues with the games CL calculations, then CL may be a great way to base a pets "worth", but until that happens onepet's worth is not equal to anotherpet's worth even though they may be the same CL...

I agree with you, but I'd probably still sell forless than 300k.

I thinkpeople tend tounderrate armor a lot. AR1 effectivly doubles a pets HAM, asdoes a resist of > 50% (for those that are interested, resist is actually better than armor, as resist can't be bypassed by an armor piercing weapon).

An AR1 pet with a resist of 55% Kinwould be equal to an AR2 pet with 5% Kin (if such an animal could be made). For a pet with a HAM of 2k, that'd be an effective HAM of 8400 (per pool), for a 6k HAM pet it's 25200 (per pool). The pet given as an example above has an effectivehealth of 29938 (rounded up).

It's amazing that people would sell that at 11k, andeven considering their own pricing scheme of"1for 1" costing on HAM (well, actually they mean health, not Health/Action/Mind=HAM), the pet should be worth a base of 29938 with nothing then added for AR/Resist...

Make the comparison... you will be surprised at the quality of merchandise you can procure. They blow the wild equivalents out of the water. Now... I can go and spend about 3 hours collecting enough Mutant Rancor DNA to get myself 1 decent pet maybe two on a really good night... if I am lucky and do not fail.

Before dropping my combat skills and becoming a BE I could spend the same 3 hour buff time out running missions and harvesting. At the market value of the meat on my server of 12 cpu (that is what I am paying for my needs, though many times you will see the cost at 20-50+cpu) and the amount of money I can get from missions in that time, I was earning upwards of 500k in a three hour period with very little risk of failure.

My time is valuable to me. I have very little difficulty charging 200-500k for a top of the line product as a BE. Bottom line... I have never had to hold a gun to anyone's head for them to purchase my products. I have never had a single customer come back to me and tell me what a rip-off I am. I have numerous repeat customers. If your time and expertise are worth so little, so be it. I will run my business as I see fit.

On a side note... I know of at least three people that have become millionaires in this game because of the the resources I have purchased as a BE.

Not a BE, but a happy (well not with Pub.7, but that is a different issue)customer of non-CH pets, and a differentcrafting professional. I have a couple of comments, for you to consider.

Firstly there should be a wide variation of prices on a server, you get to charge whatever price you want to and different people will find different prices satisfying their needs. If you want to get as rich as possible, you will want to maximize the return you get per hour played. If you play a lot, your pricesmay be a little lower to sell all that you can make, perhaps evenwholesale to a merchant, while higher prices will keep your vendor from going empty and give good return per hour.

Getting rich isn't the only way to go, you might sell at low prices to friends or to strangers that appeal to you to make new ones. Free is always an attractive price, and I feel very warm toward the BE that gave my newb alt a nice one eventhoughshe was named after a porn star. She is still on my friends list.

But if you sell on the Bazaar or off a vendor at low prices, you should realize that you are sellingwholesale even if you don't intend to. One of my characters has made good money buying low and selling high. That can be a good strategy if you want to raise money fast. Sure, it might go to a needy end user by luck, but they probably don't spend as much time looking for bargains as re-sellers do.

The other thing is that good non-ch pets are far too scarce! They should be your biggest selling product. A lv 10 pet is worth several times the price of an lv 11 with the same stats. Crafters need pets with good attacks as a guard, combat characters want a tank. Mountable pets are better, all else equal, because that helps some strategies.

Even CH's can benefit from buying pets with the minimum possible level, because CH experience depends on the difference in levels. If you could make a Lv 2 pet with 900 HAM bars it would be a CH grinder's dream, as it would give good experience on trash mobs. For that purpose, attack isn't important at lower levels, since the CH gets full experience if the pet does one point of damage before he kills the mob with his gun. As the level goes up, more attack is needed to help kill the mob.

you also might want to think of it this way.

If you charge to much or too little SoE might change it so that it actually cost more to make 1 clone.

Honestly 1k stack of meat and a 100k stack of flora is good for poping out a good 20-30 top of the line clones. granted it shouldnt matter what kind of meat it is but they should add a 0 or two to the end of the resouce costs

and vary it up a little bit more.

a Kimo should take like 1k in Meat and like 2k in flora food to pop out.

I personally dont see SoE changing pet reciepts to include more flora or creature food. The issue with pets is that its way more timeconsuming than any other crafting proffession. We have to collect the DNA by hand, we cant have our friends running tons of harvesters and delivering the stuff needed to us while we slack.

I dont think there is any way for a pet to be overpriced, cause its all about how we each value our time. Unlike a weaponsmith and simillar who just needs to buy up some bulk resources and start to make those factory runs while watching movies RL.
