Well yeah, way back when, but then way back when we were able to sample DNA from pets. We've been losing our DNA for a very long time, longer than many BE's have been playing the profession. It's an old issue that should have been fixed long ago.
BE's have never been a priority to any developer.

One of my characters is an architect. Two nights ago she had 6 critical failures in a row making crafting stations - sometimes she lost the resources & sometimes she didn't. I was so disgusted that I logged off - forgot all about /bugging it.
Now, having said this, this is the first time in 6 months that she has had a CF.

Did she /bug the criticals that caused her to lose resources? It may be a code error the developers aren't aware of. She might want to post it to the bug thread in the developer's forum as well.

Are BE's supposed to have critical failures on assembly? Good question. Not sure about that. Since they made the change whereby people are not supposed to lose materials due to a crit fail, I have not had a single crit on an assembly step on anything except creatures and dna templates, and of course in both of those cases you lose your materials. I've probably crafted thousands of other items since then (clothing, meds, tissues, food, droids, spices, etc) and no crit failures on any of those during an assembly step. But then again, I don't think it ever was spelled out that assembly crit failures were actually removed. /shrug.
Are BE's supposed to lose their dna and dna templates due to a crit failure on an assembly step: No, clearly not, that is a bug. Feel free to make liberal use of /bug on that one. And I did get verification from one of the devs that this is in their database and "to do" list. But of course, that says nothing about when it will actually get fixed.
