Thread: Price Check on a BE Critter. Is this too Much to pay???
I've been selling creatures (mostly CL50-60) from 50-350k off my vendor. The ones for 350k sell by-far the fastest, and I havent even put up my "best" creatures yet. This is rather expensive compared to most, but the fact is, in the long-run its worth it, and simply put, they sell faster than I can make them. Im not trying to get rich (I make a lot more on Mining, PetStims & Missions), but people have money to spend, and they think its worth it. I never sold a single mount on opening day, and I didnt sell any BE clones the first week after the clone patch, but after a couple weeks, people still consider these creaturesquite valuable...there is no reason for me to lower my prices at this time.
Moreover, it takes a lot of time/effort to make good stuff, particularly if you are sampling CL60-75 stuff. Also, for those selling at 1k per CL, I hope you arent spending too much time on them. All of the overly-uber creatures aside, good lower-CL creatures take far longer to make & require more resources & dna than most CL60 creatures because they generally require at least some resampling to get the desired resists & specials down to an acceptable level. I've made a handful of really great CL25 & CL35 creatures...they took far more work & are far more valuable to me than the countless uber-CL60's I've made.
As Ive stated many many times in the CH forums (whenever price fixing comes up), great service will win out over low-prices any day of the week. Also from a business standpoint, its important to create "value" in your product. When you sell for peanuts, they don't "seem" as valuable.
None of this ever stops people from undercutting themselves, but generally the lowballers burn themselves out pretty quickly.

I sell all my pets for a flat 1k per CL. That covers all my costs and generates a nice profit. So i'd have to say 200k for a CL 40 is definately too much. That's 5 times what I charge and have put similar pets on my vendor.
You see i have a problem with that, its not so much a matter of money as that i dont like feeling that "I" am being taken advantage of.
65k-70k for the best of the best in the BE pets.
To make it i will spend:
2-5 hours hunting up Mutant rancor DNA taking multiple deaths and LOTS of traveling back to the lairs during which my special dna sampling camo clothing gets beat to rats and sometimes 15k in insurance hits a night. mind you this is just for 2-3 VHQ mutant rancor dna samples, not for multiple pets, just 1.
1-2 hours traveling and hunting down special DNA for that order depending on clients needs and request (deaths head, bloodseeker mite, ancient graul, you name it)
30 minutes of shifting through dna then another 20-30 minutes of crafting the critter and PRAYING that i dont get a crit fail and lose hours of work.
All of this was for 1, countem UNO, 1 pet, I usually spend 1 to 3 nights making one really good pet and a couple 40-55th level trash pets that i sell for 50-80k and thats depending on them having good ham, good resist, armor (always), and decent dammage and two specials (always or its worthless).
The one custom pet that i have been working on for 1 to 3 days i will sell for 120k-400k dependin on its quality, i never fix my price ahead of time, i always wait for the finished product and i explain that ahead of time. Its simply pointless for me to even have a pet vendor since the pets i make are sold on the spot or within hours (i get ALOT of tells). I dont need the money any more, i price my pets according to the time i have invested vs. the end product. Ive spent a whole night sampling and cooking to come up with 1 pet that i only sold for 80k because i wasnt happy with its end level.
I think it was Tal-N or Talthazar who said "its now more art than science", well thats basically true, were artist, not gun pushers, we cant grind kimogilas out of a factory.
