Thread: State of the Bio-Engineer profession
Why? devaluation that's why. Devaluation of our tissues, devaluation of our creatures, essentially the devaluation of our entire profession. If there were meat harvesters every bozo BE would lay down a few heavies, and pump out hundreds of crates of stim c's and tissues a day. Tissues would go for exactly what all other products made from harvested goods go for: around 3cr/unit of resource plus a little bit of markup. 100cr +17 tissues anyone?
Also it removes the "more effort more reward" division that we have right now. Those that don't want to be bothered with the acquisition of tons of creature resources can make the occasional critter and sell pet stim b's and pet vitality a's. No problem. You make your money and do other stuff that's more fun for you, nothing wrong with that, but you should have no expectation of being known as some elite crafting guru as you've put little effort into it. Those that want to target a more upper eschelon of customer and enjoy the elevated status of providing such goodscan put in extra effort and aquire more creature resources and make better products. It's nicely balanced actually, not only from a BE perspective but also from a customer perspective. Those customers who want to seek outand spend the money for"top of the line" clothing, pet stims, pets, or whatever can do so and feel that they have something a little rare and difficult to aquire. It's a nice division actually and gives everyone something.
And finally, and perhaps most importantly, that's what the "hunting" line of rangers and scouts are for. How many people here enjoy going on hunting trips? you put creature harvesters in, and there would be no need for these anymore. Many players earn their keep that way. Heck, many PA's fund their operations that way. Manual creature harvesting would be about as popular as manually surveying and sampling for metal/chems/flora. So you are devaluing hunting skills and combat skills too.
Everyone is basically happy now except the "lazy crybaby" types who want to be known as revered crafters of high quality products, so long as the effort it requires is limited to inserting power and money into a machine. Sorry folks, you can't have it both ways.
Hey, if we have meat/bone/hide harvesters why not dna harvesters? lol

Well, welcome and congratulations! I'll let this thread die after saying that I DO think that creature resource harvesters (and include seafood, milk and eggs in that mix) ARE necessary. I would think that anyone that has tried to keep himself stocked in Advanced CRDMs would agree. I'm not sure why you feel that an automated, droid-run slaughterhouse is any sillier than an automated, droid-run flora farm. In fact, 21st century slaughterhouses are MUCH more automated than 21st century farms, mineral mines, etc.
Milk? Will it really be necessary once the new CH changes are in place? Will it have any effect at all? I've given up on it all together. This cloth was essentially necessary for the "dabbler" CHer. Once the new changes go into effect you will not see as many"dabblers" at all.As for collecting meat and other resources I've been a happy camper having a blast in hunting parties. Everyone in the group having Scout skills can harvest the killed creature. Last week a 2hr Kimo raid netted me 30k in Meat. Eggs are more common, you just have to go out and get them and hoard them up until you get sufficient amount. Make sure your friendsand PA mates know thisand that they ALWAYS search lairs. I agree you will not be making these for the masses but you will be able to take care of your PA ( if your in one) and yourself.
I must agree on dropping those items that are useless and giving us new things to create. I think we'll all be happy if they at least fix the cloning issues. I just hope I can continue to play this game until they actually fix this class

I have to agree with the comments so far that I'm not too keen about a meat harvester. Sure, I have to pay someone right now to get enough meat to make runs in my factory AND I'm often seen trolling the bazaar to find good quality meat/hid/bone. But I prefer that as I see it a means to keep the economy of the game going. You pay someone else for services, in turn those people have money to buy things like your stims or enhanced tailored tissue, which in turn makes business for you... thus the economic wheel turns =). Personally I'd rather give the money to another player than sinking it into some harvester and no one but me getting benefit out of that money.
I've been working out deals with various people in terms of eggs and fish. No it isn't fun collecting them. But I pay people top premiums for fish and I make substantial discounts to tailors who gather eggs for me. Again, simple economics pays off.
I'd be cool not having milk farms too IF milk was actually in the game. So that is an issue.
The real concern I see in the Tissue arena, and its been addressed in other threeds but I'll bring ip up here, we don't seem to help enough different professions. People can find skill-tapes that can help almost any profession. But we only seem to service a limited subset of those enhancements. I wouldn't want all of them but if we could just, say, provide some sort of benefit to our crafter brethern that would be cool. And I don't know how many folks have asked me if I make enhancements for things like brawler techniques or improved aiming and countless other things that I can't remember now.
As for DNA sampling, its a shame we still haven't seen the single DNA template for all pets put into play. I think that would solve a lot of problems. Then you don't have to worry about carrying around raw DNA samples. You could label them as you want, whatever color code you want to signify how "good" they are. And it would take up a lot less space. Right now, I don't bother to sample DNA until after I get an order because I can't carry around 5 samples and I don't know which DNA template to make until the order comes it.

Me too, but it is still of some usefulness. It would be nice to have something to offer the most popular profession the game. Also, even if it does nothing for BE's, chefs need milk for a bunch of their schematics (I'm talking "base" schematics here, not our additives to the chef schematics).
It's always comforting to look at the poor chef profession and know there is at least one that is much more broken then ours, lol.
