I tame, train and release my own failed experiments, but don't sell them. Or I'll sample them and target their DNA for lower-level clones. I can't imagine spending the time crafting junk clones for CH training, though.

When my friend was grinding BE earlier in the game she spent the majority of her time on talus sampling Paralopes. We had an arrangement that any of the crap pets I would buy for 250 each to help her get some back. Others got in on this to. As for myself now. I have many crap creatures of various levels that I just debate about sampling down or taming. Many are level 16 to 18 but low ham and or damage types. And lots of gnorts. I throw them all over my Hall. I just like them.

A friend of mine hit me up about this last night. So...Out of curiositiy I set out to make 5 durnis as quick as possible. All said and done..it took about 14-15 minutes to do. So I'mfiguring 20-25 per hour would be a max output. I sampled trash outside of Keren and used Ice Cream and Fishak while sampling. I made some templates when my mind was blown out and used 4 tools during the final combines. Only had one crit fail on a template. I'd say this would be a decent way to make some creds for meat/flora on the way up but definately not a fun way to play BE once mastered. Gave the durnis to my buddy and said "no thanks" to the offer for 495 more

Several MCH friends tell me that the best way to get CH xp is to simply hunt, by going up to Dantooine and such and hunt there, where CH xp is great, or to grab some babypets and kill the trash outside the starting cities.
Well, when I mastered CH and probably your MCH friends as well, you got xp from each pet that hit during combat. The recent CH nerfs eliminated this double xp gain. I'm starting to see more posts saying that taming and training is the way to go now. As far as whether it's worth it, personally, I don't think it would be worth it as an MBE, but while grinding your way there, it might be a way to make some profit for your grind.
