why combat medic ?
Combat medic gives you great healing power that you will need when hunting jedi. This is the CM4xxx, however people have been picking up CMxxx4 for the debuff line and paralyze. It seems right now the out healing of Jedi seems to be a trump card to success.

Since i dont wanner hunt Jedi, i dont have ANY skilltapes atm, i only wanner do NPC missions. Couldnt i just settle for Master Pistol and something else ?
Then use the classic template: Master BH / Master (any ranged proffesion) / CM 4xxx . It works fine with jedi and npc missions as well.

for armor though, some ubese with a good PSG never hurt, that combo of energy armor even stopped the NK from hitting me as hard, lol

If you're only wanting to hunt NPCs then i suggest a good set of Primus layered Assualt Armor. Why? Well your marks can use Kinetic AND Energy weapons. With the Primus layered Assault you can probably get your Energy resistance up to about 5k while having a 7k+ kinetic resistance. You can also throw onto that a PSG to give you an additional 2k+ Energy resistance. This will in effect give you 7k+ resistance to both Energy and Kinetic attacks.
If you go with Recon Armor then you're stuck with lower Kinetic resist plain and simple since a PSG will only offer Energy protection.

I wanted to thank you for posting what to look for in armor for this profession. Last couple of days I had been having bad experiences hunting my marks and kept getting knocked down and incapped because i could stay standing before they would knock me down again. I did just as you suggested and bought 7k kenetic armor for the critical areas head, chest, and legs. I also purchase a PSG to bring up the 5k energy to 7k also. I then went out and got my mission and off to Lok i go for my first mark. It was only 74 level mark but I couldn't even hold my own against them.....till now!!!!. It made all the difference in the world...have done 3 marks already...not one knockdown yet. Infact right after I launched my seeker and got a waypoint on Lok, the new updated waypoint.....less then 200meters away!!! sweet!!!. Well loaded up the PSG and equiped my Lightning rifle sent in a probot droid for distraction so i can get off my beginning shot. I know some think its a waste to get those but anything to distract the npc while hit him is ok with me. Within about 20 to 30 seconds i had my mark and my reward as well as loot. Thank you again for you information. Just wanted to let you know your post turned it around for me.

I'm not sure where to post this since it's a generic armor question but since I'm an upcoming CL31 ranger I thought I'd try here. I have been unable to determine how to tell what armor I'm able to use when seeking to upgrade. It's easy with weapons. The details display tells you what CL and skills are required right up front. The only way I can see to evaluate a piece of armor is to buy it and try to equip it. That can get quite expensive. The answer is probably obvious but can anyone point it out to this clueless ranger?

It's dictated by your profession. Click on the skill boxes in your ctrl+s screen to see what mitigation occurs and you'll see what type you can wear. Rangers get battle, but.. (seemingly) in the next revamp we're getting recon instead.

Hi,
I read somewhere on these boards (But I can't seem to find it now) that certain pieces of armor have no effect (i.e. there are certain parts of the body that no longer take damage). I believe head and feet were the areas that don't take damage. Can anyone confirm/deny this please as I am looking to get my armor 75% AB sliced and can't afford the resources to get all my armor done. Thanks

Hands and feet don't take damage. Armor boots and gloves are just for looks and have no stats other than condition. You can't slice them nor would you need to.
