Thread: I went to Dathomir with a Master Ranger friend in search of...

What else? Mutant Rancor DNA.

I have only had the Dathomir Camo kit applied once...and that was way before I became a BE. My curiosity about the Dath camo began to spark my interest in how well it would conceal me against the Mutant Rancors sensitive nose.

With my template supporting Exploration 4 and wearing +31 Mask Scent clothing only....I have to crawl, as of late, from 60m out to get to the 12-15m DNA sampling range. Many times my mask scent gets broken just crawling up to the guys. I have been a little desperate to get Mutant Rancor DNA to fill a couple of outstanding pet orders.

Anyway, I went with a Master Ranger friend and had him Conceal me with the Dathomir Camo kit. Needless to say, I never danced around the MR's nor did I even get close enough to sample before aggro. I slowly walked up and at 30m....aggro happened...every time. No matter what angle I used to sneak up on them...be it front, back, side....didn't matter....I got aggro'd.

The best luck I have had so far in sampling MR's has been the +14 Jawa Beer I drank just before I started stalking the MR's.

This is good for me to find out how well this works because, I had given serious consideration to becoming a Master Ranger to exclusively make pets. Now that I have triedthis, I don't think I will be going this route.

I am going to try and find anArtisan to make me some good Jawa Beer....see if he will sell me a schematic...lol.

camo kits? I thought those were for masking you from NPC's, not from creatures...

Thanks Bendi. I've always wondered about this. A couple times ago on Dath I even found a ranger and begged him to cammo me but he said he had nocammo kits... doh!

A couple things about cammo kits though: supposidly you can cammo yourself a lot more effectively then you can cammo others, so it might be worthwhile still. To be honest, when I was a ranger I pretty much never used cammo kits. Masked scent was always good enough for what I needed (hunting, this was not on my BE toon), and the few times I tried to cammo others (although admittedly this was before I became a master) it always broke almost immediately so I quickly gave up on it.

About the NPC-thing... Cammo kits used to work (kinda) against NPC's, but the devs stated that this was a bug, and nerfed em (after all... rangers are "too uber" rofl).

Camo kits are MUCH more effective on certified Rangers than on other players (we have camo mods, nonRangers do not). They are equivalent to mask scent on nonRangers, just they cover both NPCs and creatures. Thus, they are only useful with a Ranger to reapply and when dealing with NPCs.

As Master Ranger myself, I use a camo and ride my bike right into spawns of Mutant Rancors. I've never had them break camo from approaching them, only when the agro after I've sampled. Even then, they only break the camo about 10% of the time.

If you want to get MR DNA quickly and efficiently and are willing to spend 140 SP for the ability, it is definately worth it. The only problem I have had with the template is having to get rid of my vendors (only 18 SP remaining, need 24 for a vendor). However, I am a decent medic and will soon be taking up CH again (only 0/0/0/3, but thats enough to train basic commands for nonCH customers).

Oh, and btw, if the devs nerfed camo with NPCs, they did a bad job. I walk right by Nightsisters all the time with camo and they dont notice me. However, when NPCs do break camo, their agro rate is much higher than when creatures do it.

Well it's bugged. This is how it works. It works both on creatures and npc's, but.... it first determines if the npc can break your camo, if not it determines your faction and get's another chance at breaking your camo. So if your a reb you've got a higher chance of your camo breaking against an imp, than against a reb. A small percentage of npc's always break your camo.

About mask scent. I'm ranger so i have 100 in mask scent, i also wear clothing for an additional +25 boost (maxing it at 125 without food). I can walk past ancient bull rancors.
There's a few ways to boost your mask scent quite a bit:
1) Use jawa beer it's not expensive and gives you a 14 bonus.
@) Use BE'd clothing with mask scent/camo bonus
3) Prone and crawling gives you a higher chance of succesfull sneaking past enemies.
4) Walking gives a higher chance of succes than running (use shift-key)
5) Make sure you don't maximaze you scouting xp (just learn and unlearn skills). This will give you the advantage of having a message to pop up wether your camo is succesfull or not, and gives you a quick estimate of the CL (the higher the CL the higher the scout xp)

Hope this helps a bit.

That makes sense. I am neutral, so I wouldnt have that problem and have found that my camo is rarely broken.

With high level creatures though, camo is infinitely useful. Especially for the BE who isnt going to attack it.

Isaw ArthutDentOnBria post a simple truth one time.

Why spend precious skill points on profession abilities when theremay be the optionof purchasing itemsforthe sameskill abilities?...or something to thateffect...I hate to misquote people....lol.

I have to say that spending "x" amount of credits on a couple of crates of +14 Jawa Beer and good mask scent clothing over the enormous amount of skill points needed for Master Ranger seems like afair trade-off. As bad as I would like to have thoseMaster Ranger abilites, I think I will stick to being a 4-0-4-0 Scout and using the Jawa Beer/Mask Scent clothing setup.

I will just have to live with the aggro when it happens.

Buying "skills" with credits, not SP, is always better. (and Arthur is a genious)

However, master ranger with camo is infinately more powerful than 4/0/4/0 scout with BE clothes and jawa beer, at least when dealing with Rancors. Of course, I go unbuffed and unarmored, so crawling up to MRs then having to jump up and run if agroed, pretty much meant death when I had the scout template. It wasnt worth it for me. When I became a blue frog Ranger for fun, I found it took me half an hour to collect 20 samples, compared to a few hours and only one or two; thus I spent the next week mastering Ranger on my main character. *sigh* This is a case where you cant buy anything that will give you close to the benefit of mastering ranger.

Damn, nobody on Kauri here. I have way too much of this MR DNA and am having to sell it. Filled up my house, my pack, my storage factories, and another house. I just hope it sells so somebody can get some use out of it.

Do you have a vendor? I might buy some of it off you. That way I won't have to go out and get it myself.

ooft I think I'm gaining visibility and will soon be put on the Bargain Hunters mission terminals.
