Thread: A question for all BE's....
Pets.
I'm a sucker for animals and if I can make my own............
Well... A long time ago in a land far away.... before there was a thing called the CU, my main was a chef. I had 2 accounts, but I didn't have the skill points for BE. I made friends and did a very active business with a few different BEs. As time went on and BEs left the game, I found that most of the newer BEs really didn't know what they were doing. It was strange knowing more about a profession having never played it, than people who were 'masters' of that profession. It was finally time for me to pick up BE myself. Where did I get the skill points? Well, I ground out jedi with my alt so I could have a thrid toon on the server. I got my BE a few months before the CU went live. BE for me was mostly for making tissues for my self. I also made pets for fun. On the wall in my house is a 9-10k Health, 300-310 damage, lvl 10 pet. I was very happy when I figured out how to make those. Then the CU hit, and Chef and my other prof Armorsmith were changed big time. I have since dropped them both and now I use BE to make creds for me. I do a good business with Stim-Ds, chef/tailor tissues and pets. Making stims / tissues is nice and mindless and makedecent money. Making pets is nice and frustrating. I have to say I was very happy when someone came in to my house and pleaded with me to sell the 499max damage pet that was just sitting there.
So to answer the question: I made a BE because I couldn't find a good one. I kept BE because I really enjoy it.
I wasn't sure if I was going to go BE or combat medic but then one of my friends came over to our server and he was a combat medic soI went BE. Also because my husband was becoming a CH and I thought that would be a good combo. Also b/c my university background is in biological sciences/genetics (bioinformatics) not that that really applies to the game lol.
I like the scientific aspect of BE in that the equations are not simple, nothing is precise and we can experiment and ever improve ourselves. Also that it is complicated. I liked figuring out the very best level 10 pet recipes (or stealing them) and using them to make level 10's with specials and high ham level 10's. I had a little pet shop and I was happy.
Why I have stayed a BE. First because it was challenging and fun. Then it got frustrating and I quit for a while - like maybe a week or two - and the reason I came back ... was you. All of you on the forums.Because I realized there were still problems to be solved and stuff to be experimented with and I wanted to be a part of that. And because, you all are great people and I wanted to still be part of that.
It's probably about the year+ mark that I've been a BE now ... still learning every day now.

Back when I started in August of 2003 I was given a Wrix (Jazz) and a Gualama (Falcor) as pets. Then mounts came along and I had to set one of my pets free so I let my Gualama go (kinda sounds like a song :smileywink
. Then in December of 2003 my Wrix was taken away from me in the great pet nerf. I was so upset that I dropped musician and started working on BE so that I could make the best non-CH pets I could. I made pets that fit with TH's statement as to what was considered acceptable (3k HAM). I worked on perfecting my CH pets as well.
All I ever wanted to do was make pets. Sadly it looks like that ability is being nerfed with every Publish and hotfix since the CU was released. ![]()
I do make tailor tissues because I need the mask/camo, taming, and when it actually did something, the myoflex. Chefs usually are their own BE and what they want to pay usually doesn't even cover the cost of one of my ingredients let alone 3 plus maint, power to say nothing of profit.
Ah but then I was given med crafting (totally worthless and extremely costly). I do sell some D stims but it's not worth the time, effort, or cost.
I wish I had a reason to remain a BE but my love for the profession is being eroded with each Publish.
the great customization factors pre-CURB allowed for truly unique animals.
not only was their creation a driving force toward achieving this profession, but for me, telling a story about the origin of each animal i crafted became an exercise in writing.
i still believe that the profession is the most creative aspect of this game, or has the potential as such, right alongside the entertainer.
To be honest, my first and only holocron said "Go be a Bio-Engineer"...so I did. And after going broke supplying myself with resources for the grind (and going bonkers double clicking)I figured I might as well stick with it and try and make some of that money back. Plus one of my guild members brothers just started playing at the time too and he was going to be a Chef, so I figured we could work together sicne BE's were pretty hard to find back in the day. Over 18 months later and I'm still a BE, although its on my unlocked account now, but my main toon, while he is a Jedi, still has Novice Scout and spends most of his time harvesting for my BE business lol.

I've not been a BE long, but thebiggest drive in beingso, of course is the critters. My RL home has become a refuge for animals that people didn't want anymore, or just weren't wanted to begin with. My husband doesn't like it much, but I still love them all, even him
Even in game all my "failed" experiments and experimentations stay in my house and shop as furniture, I can'tbring myself todestroy them. Thus, was born theAl'thorianZoo! lol. Aside from that, my husbandthe hardcore CH andhis friends of whom he hasdrawn to the profession as wellare always in need ofpets. So i became thecritter makin' critter loving BE I am.I haven'tmade much else except for what is requested like pet stims and things. Never foundit very fun to make things like meds, even when i could asMCM, only made few thingsfor myself.JustBored me to tears. But "Here, here!!" to those that do, andto all BE'sthat stuck through and are continuing to stick through the rough changes, and tough times, when none of us are sure what is to become of us.

i became a BE to make pets fro MCH alt i found myself more and more engrossed with the scientific aspects of this profession. i find myself spending more time on this alt that was intended to be a support toon for my CH. Frustrated with the CU i had respeced to other profs i found myself missing making pets.. so I'm back now and thou crafting pets isn't the same as it was before i do enjoy visiting the different cloning facility each planet has.
I planned from day 1 to be MBE/MCH figuring i could save money by making my own BE pets for the ch aspect and make money by selling any of the ones i made that I did not want to have personaly. I did not start the game the day of launch but like 3 months after launch(was unemployed at launch and bills took precedence over games). Back in those days you could set up a vendor then dropp the skill and still have a shop. Then the merchant changes hit and my business was temporarily ruined. By this time i had joined a guild and found one of my guildies that was doing an alt merchant/ws so i was able to reopen my shop.<thanks Cooner> I made a decent amount of money selling pets but made my real money after the CU like 2 million in a week and a half on pets alone and i sell all my pets for 1k per lvl plus 10k for any master skin. I did have a much more complicated pricing method but did not want to bother my new merchant with the hassle of figuring out prices. Knowing that when i went on a pet making spree he would have had to sit down with a calculator for about six hrs to figure out the prices<lol>The main part i liked about it was that you did not have to be master to make sellable pets since there is always a new up and coming CH looking for a lv12-60 pets. I as well have been to almost every cloner in the galaxy although i do not enjoy it!
