Thread: Need ideas for killer pvp pet

Hi folks,

I got a request the other day for something I don't have much experience with: a pvp pet. The customer is very nice and understanding and has only 2 requirements on the pet, leaving the rest up to me (wohoo!). He wants it around CL 35 (meaning no more than CL 35) and he wants it to be very small, he suggested one of the rabbit skins (lord help him, lol).

Anyhow, so I'm trying to come up with a concept of what would make a really good pvp pet.

Right now I'm turning it over in my mind, but here's the initial concept. Please feel free to critique it and add your own thoughts and experiences.

Ham: low for this CL, but uniform, probably like 5k/5k/5k

ranged attack: yes

attack speed: slow

to-hit: high (which may actually mean higher "mind" ham then the other 2 slots)

damage: extremely high (hoping for 500+)

armor: none (to keep CL down)

resists: good across the board, particularly to energy and acid.

specials: strong poison, can't decide whether the second one should be something that changes the state of the target like stun, or whether it should be strong disease for sort of "griefing".

Any thoughts from veteran pvpers or BE's who cater to such folks?

much appreciated in advance.

High HAM, light armor, high kinetic, energy, heat, and electricity are the simple basics. Ranged attacks can be nice. A stun or dizzy special is good and strong poison or disease is good because of the DoT. The body type is just decoration except for speed. Pick a gurreck or a razor because they're fast. Armored gnorts are hilarious

I forgot to add you can make a CL26ish (sometimes lower) animal with armor. I've had no problem getting armor to stick in a CL30 animal with strong poison using arachne warrior.

Spazzers, yea, my alt has a very nice CL 21 armored pet that I made him. Great tank, outstanding for hunting beasts, but I don't even bother taking it out when fighting even NPC's because of all its weaknesses plus it hits about as hard as my grandma, lol.

But hmm, sounds like you are suggesting the typical PVE formula. I dunno, I've never done PVP, but was assuming having a much more offensive minded pet would be advisable for PVP with the assumption that your adversaries were more likely to be targeting you rather then your pet.

You can get light armor on CL35, but it might take a couple generations. And id suggest getting intimidate as a second speical.

I dont have much experience in this, but you could use bark mite burrower queen dna for the resists (They have Light armor, 60%Kinetic, 50%Energy, 80%Heat Electricity and Acid) I'd also throw in singing mountain clan rancor DNA to get intimidate special and it also has really nice resists/damage. But exactly how you would do this im not to sure, maybe Queen in 1-4 and the rancor in 5. Maybe one of the more experienced BEs can help with that.

For griefing purposes i recommend strong poison/strong disease as the specials.

Also make sure it's in a feline skin so it can easily catch burst-runners.

I've made my own templates for PvP that I've convinced customers that they were good.

Basically I make a triplet model CL22-24 cat types.40 Energy, 80Heat and Acid, those are the only major types of damage to worry about. HAM about 9k/7k/5k, 300-310attack, Strong Poison/Strong Disease, Ranged attack. No kinetic or elec resist. These are kinda useless since you just need to stick a poison on melee and kite and the LLC(the only real weapon used with elec damage) is so inaccurate that its rarely used.

Heres the theory, a MCH will have 3 of these kitties out all throwing a strong poison on the enemy. Having triplets is good to resist status effects and KDs that would render 1 strong pet useless. Their main point is to stick a strong poison/disease on the opponent before dieing, easy to do with a ranged attack. You can't really have Tanks for PvP since PCs are not stupid enough to go for a pet instead of the master. If the person is so dominately strong that they can kill a good pet and still kill you there is no chance anyways.

Add a health bleed to this combo and you're set. The more time that passes the better your chances. PvP is full of 1 hit moves, so having tanks really isn't useful if they master falls instantly. Use the triplets and kite your way to victory.

I have a CL31 armored razor (named Gillette) that does 450 damage with nice resists across the board. I've watched it take down a rancor while I took a little dirt nap.

The reason I said kinetic, energy, heat and electricity as basics are because most people in combat have a blaster or FWG5 or flame thrower. The armor will help in melee as well.

A mid level animal (CL30ish) will allow you to have a good evenlevel forall the HAM bars which will be necessary in PvP. I watched a guy take out another players mind in one kick.

Great comments in this thread already. The only think I will chime in on is you need to convince your customer not to order a rabbit. After the initial monty python appeal wears off, they will come the the inevitable conclusion that they suck.

Rabbits are great to put 4x Mutant DNA in and one other DNA type in aggression for a special, but that's about it.

I was amazed the other day while collecting herbivore meat when my gurrcat actually kept up with my speederbike as I looked for spawns. This is why the cats own, as others already pointed out. Have your cats attack and even if the target jumps on a bike and flees, you can jump on yours and pursue them to the end of the planet as long as your pets don't get hung up on a rock.

Thanks guys, great comments and gives me more ideas.

As far as the rabbit thing, yea, couldn't agree more. This is actually part of a 4 pet order and he actually wanted 3 of em to be rabbits, lol, I talked him out of 2 of them being rabbits, giving him razor cats instead, we'll see about this one. I think his concept was that if the pet is very small it will be harder to target or more likely to be overlooked in a fight, which seems like a reasonable thing for PVP. I used to hear CH's talking about liking snakes for that very reason. Perhaps a kima skin will give him that small animal and still something a little faster.

The CL 21 pet my alt has is a squall, I have to admit this, lol. I love it, but its speed is a huge drawback. Sometimes enemies run right by it, and it will only engage after the creature has attacked me, grrrr. And when I'm going from lair to lair, I always have to store it because I'm not patient enough to wait for it to catch up. I also made him a gurrcat when he as a noob CH, and like you said, I was always amazed when it was able to catch up with my speeder, even running over rough terrain. Incredible!

Regarding small creatures being hard to target, have your friend try the <TAB> key out.

I would make the following suggestion, as an MCH/Be working towards MBE,..

If your friend is an MCH,.... 2 level 35LA, High kinetic and Energy, some to all else,...damage and speed negotiable,....specials, 1 pet Knockdown/Strong Poison,....second pet,....Dizzy/ Intimidate,...or work these around and have him arrange his commands to suit them,....or if he's looking for 1 CL 35,......LA High Energy and Kinetic,....some to all others,....damage and speed negotiable,...intimidate/strong poison or the other way around.....for 3 pets,....no armor, not likely anyways,...50 to 60 resists Kin and Energy,...as high as you can get in alt resists,...Damage not important,...Delay *work this if you have experiment pts left*,....specials are Knockdown/Strong Poison,.....Dizzy/stun,.......Blind/Strong Disease,..... The reasoning is to get 3 pets on single command make the most of that command. Opinions may differ/mileage may vary.

Add another ditto.

If it's a pet that will be used on it's own, try and make it either KD/Dizzy or Strong posion/Strong Disease. the Posion/Disease combo is only good for a pschological advantage really, the KD/Dizzy is probably a smarter move

I always though Bearded Jax make a cool PvP skin.Getting your butt kicked by a kitty cat is kinda embarrassing )
