Thread: Bad Customer
This is one of the reasons I'm giving serious consideration to dropping BE.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all the custom I've had over the last few months and I'm very grateful for the credits people have spent on pets I've made. However, the problem is that there are many people who don't understand BE and how difficult it is to make custom orders, how they need a CH to train them, what level pets they can use and so on. It's not so much that there are "bad" customers, just there's a lack of information and no matter how many signs (bone armour segments) I hang in my store or how many "rules" I give my vendors to bark, I receive a lot of people asking about pets they've bought without listening and subsequently can't use.
As I say, I appreciate the custom but it's getting to the point where I spend more time dealing with players who have issues than I do actually playing the game.
(Please don't misunderstand me - there's nothing wrong with the pets I'm producing and I have some very valued customers, but I think SOE need to introduce some new abilities or guideline-issuing skills for Merchants/BE - or maybe even change the vendor item displays - so we can actually inform shoppers of what they can and can't use in a more active manner.)

I don't require any sort of up front payments for pets, but then I've never run into the problem you are describing. All the custom pets I've made have been taken usually with great thanks. There are some people out there who do understand the difficulty in cloning and appreciate the work you put into it.
Then there are those other people. I would ban some one like you described without hesitation from my house and vendor and also put them on my ignore list. Also concider going on your galaxy message board and posting their name up as some one who renegs on paying for orders they make. See how he enjoys being banned from a lot of vendors and stores.
For your peice of mind, the price for the pet seemed fair to me and if put on a vendor it will be gone in a few days.

I know this is a fairly common complaint from all merchant types, but I have been getting a lot of non-CH customers who want the near-impossible or somebody with minimal CH who wants the near-impossible anddoesn't want to pay normal prices.I patiently explain to everyone who asks all that I can about creature levels, how that affects ham and specials, how hard it is to make high resists etc and keep creature level down, but it never stops.
I don't want to be rude, but for gosh sakes! I don't ever remembertellinga merchant who was selling something forsome amount that Ionly had enough creditsto pay 50% of their asking price, demand theyrush my order andcertainly would not have expected to be taken seriously if I had. I DO remember doing tons of missions to get enough cash for a vehicle, mount or that new gun I wanted. What is up with people? Oh yeah...and the beggarswho spam for credits at starportshave got to bethe laziest, lamest bunch of ne'er do wells I have ever encountered. I guess they are roleplaying deadbeats or something.
i had a guy order a cl70 kimo from me, told him it was going to cost 600k, he said not a problem. End of the story is .... it is still sitting on my cutsom order vendor for the past 2 weeks and i have emailed the customer numerous times about picking it up.
So you know what i say screw it throw it on ur vendor if you dont have one sell it on the forums, it's that persons loss
I sell all my stuff as-Is. I will only do custom Orders for the finial skin type. So far it seems to work I can barely keep my friends vender stocked.
I just don't make pets anymore. Well, I make pets for friends and for fun, and put them in my house, but i don't take orders anymore and I don't put them on my vendor anymore.
I still sell stims and lots of tissues.
Once in a blue moon if someone wanders by my house while I am there and is polite I might make them a pet for free if I have any DNA that's any good in my crafting station, but, people are just **edit**. Hate hate hate selling pets now. Making pets is fine, selling pets I hate.
I just never made custom pets for customers (I do for friends of course).
But I do keep my vendor well stocked with at least 30-40 pets with most CL Ranges covered so most of the time people can get something similar to their requirements from my vendor.
I have tried to make a couple of custom pets, and similar situation I charge lots and the customer was not fully satisfied.
But I do have a huge bunch of CH'ers who seem to love my vendor and regularly come in and spend upwards of 3-400k on a few good pets. And these guys are the reason I keep going! I really get a kick out of seeing my pets in action too, love to see them kicking arse.
Whehe nice thread. I'm only a BE since a couple off weeks but all i do is make custom pets and having a blast so far as most ppl arent to annoying.
However I just got the 1ste **edit** customer. He wanted a lvl 30 narlatch high damage and armour. He offcourse wanted it now so i gave him a price indication and call me crazy but i make stuff like that for 50k just because its only a shirt trip to endor. The big surprise was he told off and said 30k was more a fair price so I told the guy I barely got my cloning costs covered for the 50k and that the price just went up to 500k.
**edit** dont think he will contact me again.
Do love that **edit**
Interesting thread.
I, too, have two unclaimed "special order" pets in my shop right now. One is a killer CL56 Rancor made with BMB and Mutant DNA that came out 60% kinetic 45% energy 85% to4 other types and even 1% to stun. Light armor and 550 damage with a dizzy special. The other is a special order CL10 Gurreck with dizzy/strong disease, 14% kinetic and 4K HAM.
As it is, I am a few days behind on custom work and the stock pets on my vendor rarely last more than a few days. I barely advertise - just an occasional post on the forum boards.
More and more, I'm thinking of requiring a 50% deposit for custom orders. It's either that or stop doing them all together. I'm doing two CL10 kaadus right now with strong disease/strong poison 25% or better kinetic with 2500+ HAM and truth be told, I could have made 20 stock pets in the time it's taken me to get these two done.
However, I do feel that once a customer actually picks up their custom pet (I customize color and even the name on the deed for them - risky if they choose not to buy it because it's harder to resell), they are more than likely going to come back in the future and spread the word.
As time goes by, we'll have to see. If I have too many people like your customer, I will stop doing them alltogether.
