Thread: Ranged attack skin dependent or not?

I have a big pet order from a guy (8 pets, all differnt ranges of cats), and he asked if possible if I could put ranged attack on them.

I replied saying that ranged only works on skins that have ranged in the wild (as per the FAQ) and he said he already had a Razor Cat that does ranged attack.

Anyone know for sure if non-ranged skins can use ranged attack if they have it?

BTW, I've spent 2 days solid on Dant (the ghost planet - where has all teh spawn gone??), Dath (forget it, those rancors are just too cranky) and Endor (great, but is there anything which doesn't have resist vulnerabilities of some kind? And I wish I could find more than 1 or 2 bark mite burrowers per hour).

Thanks.

I am not a Bio Engineer, but I have seen a vendor with a Gurreck that indeed did have a ranged attack. It was a very high level however, and I'm unsure how he created it. But it proves its possible. Good Luck!

Ok, just from what i have seen, i made a few different creatures something like a blurrg skin can be taught the ranged attack command where as something like a gurreck cant. at that point it gets down to if the creature feels like using it it will (not a good system) i have however seen the pets that cant be taught the command use the attack... odd but thats what i have seen so far.

Skin does not in any way restrict ranged attack...Only the DNA used to make the DNA template makes an impact (ie, if all the samples have ranged, thefinal template and thus the final creature, regardless of skin, should have ranged). It actually works a little differently than that, I think (the use of ranged/non-ranged DNA in the mental slot appears to play a big role), but I can say with certainty that skin DOES NOT affect ranged attack ability. If you doubt that, come to my vendor (on Lok in Diosis, Naritus server) and see my acid-spitting rancor

Thanks for the responses. Just to clear up as there is a little confusion (more than normal )

When I talk about ranged attack, I am not saying whether the ranged ability is on the creature, as that is easy to get. I can produce ranged attack on any skin. But the FAQ states that only skins with ranged in the wild, will actually use their ranged attack in combat.

Seems like at least 1 person has got it to work, so I guess it really doesn't matter what the skin is.

Thanks.

Ranged Attack is 99.8% dependant on Mind put something with ranged attack in mind, experiment at least 1 point if it doesnt pop on the inital combine boom ranged.

you really have to screw up to not be able to get it to transfer to the dna template once you figure that out though.

Oh and the wild thing is bull, I have Razor Cats with Ranged attacks KD and Mild Diseases and they fire off like champs.

If people honestly are too stupid to figure out:

"a rancor SHOOTS at XXX Mob for 900000 Damage"

Means a Ranged attack was initated, and also that some pets have no reason to try and hit something that is 5m away from it with a ranged attack.

I wonder can we get the FAQ details changed so others don't get confused by this too.

I don't think we've cleared up all the confusion yet. Yes, you can put ranged attack on a skin and it will use it when it feels like it. My gurrcat does this, usually a ranged attack to open the combat, then closes to melee for the rest of the fight. (Actually, with the current bugs in stand-off distance, it now closes to melee then runs away, but you get the idea.)

This is not the same as having a ranged attack which can be used with the CH "Use Ranged" command. I am of the view that you only get this with a skin that has ranged ability in the wild. Some more tests needed.

I use a level 68 razor cat with a ranged attack on a regular basis and he has no problem using it. I even see "Shrike shoots a picket longhorn for 486 points of damage' in the combat spam, so the I know for sure the game is registering it as a ranged attack. I kinda prefer to think of it as hurling quills from his mane or something like that tho, not sure I like the idea of my cat spitting at folks

As others have said, once its on the template then the skin does not hinder the ranged attack translation to the final pet at all.

When training a BE pet with a ranged attack,I have never been able to trainthe pet to Use Ranged. The only pets I have been able to train the ranged command to are the babies from the wild which have a ranged attack.
