Thread: Macroing
I understand that macroing is part of the game and is not a tool or exploit. But while I was at a starporting waiting for the shuttle I heard someone say that they were going to get a second account and have a master weaponsmith in a week because of Macroing. When I said I thought that was a cheesy thing to do he told me that macroing was part of the game and I can bet my **edit** that he would exploit it to the fullest extent he could. Now I have two questions:
1. Is it even possible to get a marco that will allow you to craft while you are AFK?
2. What do other crafters think of the cheese factor of doing this?

funny, I just talked to a guy on Chilastra who was doing something like that for his KID to be a Master WS. His second accout gives him 20 slots to use harvesters and he uses Macro Scheduler to cheat. But Im not TOO worried about it because he is moron. His kid cant be any smarter. There is more to weaponsmithing that just doing the grind. If you dont UNDERSTAND crafting the he will still make crap weapons even with 1000 skill points to spend. This means you actually compete against real world intelligence. He just volunteered his kid for Tell-hell and verbal abuse. Not to mention the character was already 2/3rd thru the weaponsmith tree and wouldnt even give me anything to train him in techniques4. My policy was always 50% off NPC price. I didnt even get a deal that good, most other smiths think if they dont train you then you cant compete again them. I would have jumped at the chance when i was paying full price. He claimed he was broke, firearms2, melee2, ordinance1 and tech3 and hes broke? bull! I even offered to trade some resources for training but this moron said 'Sorry, I dont pay for training unless its an NPC'. So let me get this right? you would pay Sony (aka NPCs) full price but not another player 50% or give up some resources from the 20 (10 violating the EULA) harvesters you have running? oh yea. youre a complete **edit**ing moron. You'll craft pure crap im sure. Good luck in your tell-hell.

Geez...ridiculous...I hate whiners who complain about not being able to do the grind. Master Weaponsmith is NOT for you then. Go away, go bother some other profession.
As for legit, in-game macros, there is a /selectdraftschematic command, and another one (that currently escapes my mind) that advances the crafting process. The best thing to do would be to turn on the chat log (/log on), then print out all the / commands (//), then turn off the chat log (/log off). This will give you a text file of all commands available. Scan through that list, and you should find some juicy tidbits to aid in macroing.
The /selectdraftschematic command uses the position of the item in your datapad...so /selectdraftschematic 4 would select the 5th item (it starts at 0). So, just find the position of the item you want to craft, and do /selectdraftschematic X, and that'll select the schematic for you (of course, you need to have yoru crafting station open).
So...if you were good...you'd make a macro that opens up your crafting kit, and selects the item you want to craft on. Then you'd click the resources in (the part that can't be macroed). Then run another macro that advances the crafting process all the way to the end. If you set the check-box to Practice, then you won't even have to bother with clearing inventory. ![]()
Of course...I didn't know about these macro commands until AFTER I became a Master...so, I don't really care now.
selected. The standard answer is to run the tool once, in practice and it should
stick. Regrettably, this doesn't work (I tested it yesterday). You can also
just use /select # and that works. D18 is 68. Blaster pistol barrel, 65.
(Those are both for the weapon tool)
Honestly, using this macro setup doesn't make it fun, but it really is pretty painless.
Now, gathering a few 100k in steel, that just takes time.
Where does this text file of the commands save to?

So you are suggesting that a trained chimp is more suited for weaponsmithing than someone who can't stand staring at their PC for 6 hours a day doing there absolute best trying to get RSI? I hate whiners that do everything the hardway a cry when others take a shortcut. Work smart, not hard. It will get you further in life.

Hmmmm...my bad...but maybe you missed the part where I explained to the masses how to make macros to help them out.
Not only that, but you've probably missed the 12,000 other posts where Master Weaponsmiths get trashed for being "exploiters"....so, which do you want, "Work Smart, Not Hard", or "Play Fair"?

DTox, just so you know I have never criticized any master for the factory bug. That's why I keep calling it a bug, not an exploit. An exploit would be if they used some special tactic, like placing the factory on a zone border so it spewed out items in duplicates and got double XP. This 100%XP bug is something that people discovered during normal operation of their day to day business. In other words, they weren't doing anything other than exactly what they were supposed to be doing. TBH I think the developers did this on purpose, just to get a few masters on the servers right away to make it interesting for the marksmen and brawlers.
I think masters are overly sensitive at this point at which they start feeling as if they are being bashed the instant someone brings it up, even without negative connotations. Most people are jelous. I wish I was a master, but in a strange sense, I would rather do it the hard way. I just have a good understanding that the "honest way", the way that will make you feel all fuzzy inside when you finish, is purely moronic. I have mastered the art of weapon crafting ages ago, but because grinding is apparently the only way a company can make an MMO last more that a month I have to do this. Their lack of creativity is raining on my fun. Once I master, the I do believe that it will all be worth the hassle. In the mean time I reserve the right to complain about a game that I pay for that makes me go through such waterheaded activities.
This is almost like telling me that I have to hand copy everyname in the phone book if I want to be a phone technician. If I want to be able to drive a car I have to walk to work every day for 2 months. What crap. Crafting is for me, weaponsmithing is for me, activities involving hidiously repetitive tasks with little to no reward can be left to the least common denominator.
Now, I do not mean that grinders are retards or disfunctional in any way. I have great respect for anyone with that kind of patience to click the same **edit** thing umteen kabillion times in an effort to one day sell weapons to some boner that won't appriciate what you have been through. I just have to bring a ton of gusto to the table with me on nights that I decide to grind.
After /selectDraftSchematic you enter nothing. That is the end of your first macro.
F1>Opens Weaponcraftingtool#1 > Selects proper schematic
You double-click the resources and hit <enter> several times. . . wala - you're done.
Also, use the ctrl-o > MISC to elimate "Confirm Crafting Actions" which will elimate the number of times you have to hit enter. The main reason a true macro won't work is the fatal errors when you lose your materials. You can't predict it.
Bottom line - macroing for crafters was nerfed with the factories. If you want master, you have to grind. Macroing makes it bearable. Weaponsmithing is 224k exp/Skill for a total of 896k exp.
448,000 units of steel
15,000 gun barrels
5 seconds per gun barrel
21 hours of crafting to get master weaponsmith.
Sit back, relax, and watch Episode II 10 times. ![]()
The fact remains that you don't have to grind. You can simply choose to do a few weapons here and there, wait til they sell, and do some more later. That's perfectly acceptable.
However, that's going to take you a long time, as it should.
The problem I see is that people think there's a time limit on how quickly you MUST make it to Master level. People can choose to go at their own rate. That's perfectly acceptable. It's perfectly acceptable that one person can choose to take a very casual route, crafting a few weapons every once in a while, and it's also perfectly acceptable that another person can choose to do it as quickly as possible, just grinding away to get the XP out of the way.
I dunno about anyone else, but I started driving at 16...it took me a couple of years til I felt comfortable enough driving that I took a long road trip (400+ miles). If I were to judge my driving capabilities now, I wouldn't even begin to think that I were anywhere near "Master" level.
And yes, the real-life example is very stupid. However, the fact that "practice makes perfect" and that those who are the BEST at the things they do did it by doing repetitive actions, over and over again. How many math problems do you think Einstein solved in his lifetime? How many backflips does a world-class gymnast do a day? How many hours does a pilot put in before he gets a license? That's all grinding...but, in the real world, we call it "practice".
Mastering a profession is something that is going to take time. The amount of time it takes is variable, according to the person. However, people who cannot accept that, and want it all NOW NOW NOW NOW...should get the **edit** off our boards.
