okay, my BE char is a support char ... so it is not needed as far as a primary source of income so to speak ... but i would like it to stand on it's own ... and be able to sample creatures that are high enough to make some decent pets
this is my plan after some consideration .. looking for input / opinions on it ...
Master BE
Master Scout (for the max mask scent without clothing or food/drink)
Rifles 4044 (going with this after trying out pistols, would prefer the extra damage output and the possibility of killing a few of the spawns around a nest to leave a single to DNA ... would have done something like TK or swordsman but i would prefer range for this instead of melee)
my main Char is
Master CH
Master Scout (Ranger 0030)
Master TK

Just keep TKA 0040 or 4040 tbh. If you are just going to use him for meat gathering / dna gathering then you don't need much fire power.

If you do rifleman, be sure to get Concealment I. It is the most valuable PvE skill in the rifleman profession.

this char won't be used for much PvE at all .. so i dont need concealment ... the rifle would be mostly for if i gain aggro during a dna sample ... this is a second char from me .. my main char is the second one i listed the stats on

If you plan on avoiding combat except for dna sampling problems, I'd recommend skipping rifleman (and all other combat skills) and invest in a good speederbike. If you're going with master scout anyway, look into the wayfaring branch of ranger - camoflage is much better than mask scent at avoiding groups of agro creatures, which can be problem as a b-e.

the ranger camo works well? ... i haven't seen anyone with it to try it out myself ... so i haven't put much consideration into it ...

I'll second that. Jebus, I was absolutely amazed that at 0-1-0-0 my rifleman character was able to kill things that he couldn't touch even when he was nearly MBH.... *mumbles something derogatory about combat balance*

Sure. But it does come in handy when your sampling mark is surrounded by other aggros, for example nightsister rancors are found with nightsister creature handlers and it's nice to be able to cap those hags without them ever seeing you. Given the points you're investing in rifleman without mastering, I'd still advise you to either master it or go 0-1-0-0 and invest the savings in ranger as others suggest.

I disagree. Consider that if you go 4-0-0-0 ranger, you won't even have the ability to make dath cammo kits (which is the only reason you'd want cammo as a BE) so it's kind of pointless imho (yes, you can aquire them, but good luck with that). Also, as I recall for a couple of boxes in that wayfairing line, you don't even get any mods for cammo (/boggle) so much of the ranger's cammo ability comes at the master level. If I were to do a BE/ranger template, I'd probably do 0-0-4-0 , use my master scout mask scent (+ clothing/food bonuses) and use the tracking to help me find what I want to sample.

i do know on my main char with master scout i can get up and personal with rancors without them aggro'n .. same with kimo's ... krayts is another story ... it seems to be about a 50/50 chance and they will break mask scent ... tho this is just without any clothing or drink for extra bonuses ...

Hehe, well, my attitude has always been: if I was able to kill whatever it is I'm sampling, with a modest amount of combat skills unbuffed, then perhaps I shouldn't be sampling that creature, lol. Seriously, if a creature that you care about sampling aggros you, why would you want to kill it? Just run/drive away, turn around, come back, and continue your sampling. Also, if the goal really is to kill whatever it is that aggros you while sampling, rifleman is not a good choice, because as everyone knows, rifleman can't hit the broad side of a barn at < 15m. You'd probably do better to get some type of melee profession that specializes at fighting in close quarters like that.

good point there,
i did some refiguring and i would have enough skill points to do
Master BE
Master Ranger
and then one box into any of the combat prof's ... i may make that into a goal ... but i will need a combat prof to help building up ranger and can just drop it down as i need the free SP to train ...

Have fun. Throw sanity to the winds. Be a BE/Musician. It's fun.
