Thread: Interesting news about creatures and CH.
Why am I cynical in thinking that there is as much chance as a snowball in hell that the devs will get it right...In fact...as every new publish completely trashes another part of the game, I predict that BE will no longer be able to craft any pets with over 1k health...oh and med crafting will suddenly dissapear from BE...(For which a bewildered dev team will respond "You never were particularly stuck on meds anyway, were u?"...either that or "It's a new...erm...feature")
I am waiting in the wings saving my token respec for when they fix Pet Crafting...but I can't help feeling that they will never bother to get it right.
For the love of all that's wookiee,,shesh
Kinda takes away from the word "Baby"....
This will very probably be the final nail in the coffin as far as I am concerned. I became a BE to make pets, I would occassionally make tissues for tailor friends and also because I am a clothes horse and like to have BE'd clothes for my CH, BE, and dancer.
Chefs have rarely needed additives and making additives happens once in a blue moon. LOL, I have factories sitting with additives as we speak.
I beggared myself getting the necessary resources to make the chemical components and med stims and enhancers. They are not worth the expense and since I do not have a 12-point doc suit rather pointless for me to craft.
If the new CH system does not included a significant niche for BE then it is time to not only kiss BE goodbye but also all my other broken professions (CH, Ent, Smuggler) and bid a fond farwell to the many friends I have made in my 2 yrs in the game.
BE was the best profession even with it's bugs and missing pieces. Now it isn't even the shell of what it once was and holds no enchantment.
We got turned into the Wal-mart of profession supplying and are supposed to be happy about it.
if you mean me - i meant that to be read with heavy sarcasm. -- dor

CH here... (with a BE alt on occasion)
I don't think it's as bad for you as you might think. So long as you can continue to craft creatures with base stats that are different/better than wild creatures, then your critters would still be in demand.
Your creatures start as babies as much as normal ones do, so if your critters stats are better (which they often are) then we'll want your creatures to be the final creatures we teach our specials to, and well want wild creatures to learn the specials from. BE pet plus leaned CH specials = best pet possible.
Its kind of like cars. You engineer them, and we get to tinker under the hood.
The system is still on test so it is still early. From what the CH correspondant has been able to gleen from the developers (they are actually talking to him so it would appear SOE is taking CH seriously) the system is random but works in this way;
A CH (me) can "learn" an ability from a wild animal over time by using the pet. The CH can then teach that ability to another pet (a BE pet).
In practical theory - I buy a BE CL70 razor cat. The BE animal may or may not have inherent abilities. We will assume no. A huurton hunter has an ability I would like to learn but I don't want a huurton hunter for a long term pet. I tame a baby and I'm able to use the baby from the word go. Over time (we don't know how long) I learn the huurton's ability. In the meantime I'm using the BE'd animal so it gains pet xp. When the pet gains enough xp a slot opens and I can train the BE'd pet with my learned ability.
This system - theoretically - allows a creature handler to customize a high end BE'd animal using multiple learned abilities from wild animals the CH doesn't intend to keep.
This gives a lot of content to CH's they didn't have before. It allows me to have a unique custom high end BE'd animal I have direct input into, which I didn't have before. This also makes CH more inviting to new players which means more BE'd animals to sell.
Realistically, if I am going to have the ability to combine animal talents from multiple animals in just one, I am going to want that one to be the best I can get, which means a BE'd animal.
You will still have to compete with wild animals but this isn't new. You've always had to compete with wild. What this change does is make to "wild only" CH's take a second look at BE'd animals, since a CH pet will not resemble anything wild any longer. They will all be custom and unique to the owner because of the owner.
So get out there and learn your trade. You market just became high quality high end animals, instead of churning out run of the mill non-CH pets. ![]()
But we have med crafting! We are so HAPPY b/c we have med crafting! ![]()
Also - didn't the greatest BE in SWG recently saysomething like 'pets are merely weapons nothing more'? Seems like BE pets are going to be containers with teeth now.
(although I rather like the idea of the CH's getting something fun to do and I'm all for it I was hoping we'd be able to craft them in).
