Thread: Question to TH: Invalid pets, submitted 5/3/04

BTW thanks for helping out NJ.
I agree that the worst thing with the system just now is that you can create a pet which is deemed invalid when a customer tames even although it has just been recently created and you did nothing which would warrant an invalid pet. I suspect that the extra check for pet validity was put on the "tame" process to catch historical pets, they forgot to also put it on at the time you create a new pet.
However - with these 19 questions the one thing that is abundantly clear is we need to draft the question very carefully to avoid a glib answer - or (to be fairer to the devs) a misunderstanding of the question.
How about: "Currently a bio-engineer pet which is crafted just now (for example today), can still get the "pet invalid" dialogue box when a customer tries to tame it. This means that a bio-engineer cannot sell pet deeds with any confidence that the pet he or she has created will be valid. Are there any plans to fix this in the near future - or alternatively what can a bio-engineer do to ensure that all pet deeds he or she creates will work?"

Sounds great to me. This is the main problem we are experiencing currently.

i just want to offer this idea:
Why do certain special attacks, such as plague strike and open wounds, not end up on the clone, even though they are counted in the CL calculation?
Great Question, and DocSavag's clarification would help even more. I like the idea of a 'Check Validity' radial menu. That would help no end. All it need do is send the pet through the same process as is currently used for checks (see my other post on what constitutesa pet check) as the Deed is at full grown level, whereas the tamed pet is Lvl 1. If it fails, it auto level adjusts and returns the pet to deed. If it passes, pet stays at the same stats and returns to deed.
Would seem like a simple answer to me! A good compromise ![]()

You aren't necessarily any better off than you were with none but we'll give it our best shot

I suggest you change the "Are there any plans to fix this in the near future..." to "Would it be possible to fix this by putting in a simular check at the final assembly or as even better as a radial menu option from the deed itself "Check Pet Validity"? Or some other wording that asksabout the possibility of a specific fix. I fear asking if there are any plans will get you a truthful answer of "No."
I agree, this would be my choice for our question.
"Currently a bio-engineer pet which is crafted just now (for example today), can still get the "pet invalid" dialogue box when a customer tries to tame it. This means that a bio-engineer cannot sell pet deeds with any confidence that the pet he or she has created will be valid. When will a system be put in place in which either 1) the bioengineer cannot create an invalid pet or 2) the bioengineer is able to check the pets' validity pre-taming, as this is a game-breaking issue that needs to be addressed.
Might I suggest starting the question with something like,
"Since we have technically already had our revamp, are proposed changes or fixes by the BE community going to fall by the way side until everything else is taken care of or will there be some effort to fix what we see as broken?"
BTW, Thanks NJ62 and DocSavagfor helping us out ![]()
