I mean perhaps I was overly confident of this but when I saw the new reqs on BE I 'thought' that when we didn't need Hunting anymore we also would get some kind of masked scent-ish skill to help us sample agressive mobs without needing Explore 4. I mean yea if you have wanted to be a pet crafter up to this point you pretty much HAVE to have Explore 4. Many BE's consider it a silent requirement. So here I log into the test server for a few hours to test stuff and check out the new skills and certs and I go over the BE one and I see we didn't get anything of the like.
Maybe creature agro will work differently now. Or maybe.. maybe the new profession layouts and trees aren't done yet. I know the new weapons are listed yet or certed. Other things have yet to be included. Maybe some way for BE's to actually enjoy their entire profession without the silent requirement of Explore 4 being there.
I'm still happy that finally, I'll have the skill points to actually master a combat profession and still have a shop and explore 4 (hopefully. Honestly I have been in the game since beta2 and have yet to master a combat profession. Mostly because up until the CU I've enjoyed the crafting game much more.)
Anyone else slightly disappointed that the silent BE req is still there? Maybe.. maybe the devs realize this little problem and will give us something in return. Or maybe they don't really care. I think they do.. so I remain hopeful, if somewhat dismayed now.
BTW so far I enjoy the CU. Hard.. odd.. the new creature level number system a bit to dumbed down for me, but I enjoy it so far quite a bit
Now hopefully when the beta for RotW comes out we have some new pets to make. I'd personally like to see several creatures from the normal game even added.. like CRYSTAL SNAKES! Love those.

I'm so confused... originally scout was not a requirement, then 4000 was the requirement, now?????

4000 has never been a requirement, just strongly advised if you wanted to sample. While scout isn't scheduled to be a requirement, 4000 will remain advised for the mask scent ability.

No the new requirement is only 0004 of Medic now. However, and I think it stinks, the silent requirement of Explore 4 still exists. I will still get a lot of skill points back yes.. but I wish the devs would either give us some masked scent-like ability to sample agressive mobs without easy detection, or make it an official requirement, cause many newbie BE's who are interested in the creature part of our profession (and thats 1/2 of the profession) get kinda thrown by that.

Mask scent is not a bio-engineering ability. It is a scouting ability and as such belongs in the Scout profession. Yes it is a de facto requirement for those BEs who make pets but for the rest (of which there will be a large influx) it represents wasted skill points.
Dabbling in different professions is a fundamental feature of this game and is what makes it interesting and challenging.

I'm just mad that all the experimentation points come with just the first four boxes and nothing at master. BE will be the DE FACTO dabbling crafting profession.
I'm a cloning BE by the way. If they were to make the scout and medic skills an either/or for novice, then I would drop the medic crafting box and novice medic completely. Then I could possibly grab more merchant or artisan.

how come on the CU upgrade it still says that hunting 4 is required for BE (I'm referring to the control-S skill trees). Is it just another bug?

I think so. Well not a bug necessarily. There are a couple other professions still having their old requirements on the skill tree window too.

I dont have scout4xxx only 2x4x and when i go on a sampling spree still manage to get the samples i need so you can do with out the whole branch just use clothing, aroma screen and it does his job maybe not for the high cl creatures but just last night i went to sample MR manage to get 5 VHQ samples before getting slain only to lose them on a critical failure.
Have yo guys put any thought where to put the skillpoints we free up in the cu?
My template as of right now is:
scout 2x4x
MBE
MTailor
Merchant xxx3
cero skillpoints left

if you have a ranger friend then you could always get a camo kit applied before hunts to places like dath etc. not ideal but how often do people go to high level planets? Maybe plan what you want and go on a long dna sesh. might be better than spending the points on explore 4!

I'm sure there's a chef on your server that would be happy to sell you some quality Jawa Beer.
