I just had an unpleasant experience. Someone walked up to me and asked me if I could make him a Dewback to use as a tank. I said sure, but not for free. I told him I could make him a nice one for 5400c. He said it was too expensive and wanted to buyone for 1000c. I politely told him that I didn't want to sell one for that cheap. He then offered 1000c, a padded helm, and a sword, but again I politely told him I deal in cash only and thatI was sorry. I asked him if he was a creature handler (I probably should have asked him earlier) and he said he was not. I then pointed out that a non-CHDewback would cost him more since they're harder to make (at least in my limited experience. I'm new to this prof and my skills are only 2-1-3-0 so far). It was at this point that another person came up to us and said I was trying to rip him off. I tried to explain that I was not but the new guy insisted that I was, and even told the first guy that he could easily find a BE to make him a non-CH pet for FREE! The first guy became confused at this and started to beg me to make him one. I once again politely said I could not but the new guy again accused me of ripping the first guy off and then left. Finally the first guy gave up and said he would go try to find some more cash and then left. I was left shaking my head in confusion and just walked away feeling bitter.

So, WAS I ripping this guy off? It certainly wasn't my intent.

Should I have handled this differently?

I personally don't think you were ripping him off and you handled it quite well. I had a similar incident where the person just wouldn't leave me along and kept begging. Can you say /add ignore!

not in any way, the second person probably didnt' know what they were talking about and was thinking of their friend that made them a decent pet for free. Additionally, dependign on what you consider a "tank pet" chances are you may be undercutting a bit (though that is HIGHLY dependent on your server's economy). For me, a good tank pet (50-60kin, 6k+ health, staggered action & mind) is worth 50-70k. I saw a "monster" 60kin 10k-7k-4k HAM pet with 140(?) dmg and a couple specials go for 1 mil on my server recently, so i'd say the answer is probably no, you wern't overcharging in the least.

AS to how to handle it better, you have /addignore, though that would be pretty harsh for a new player. Simply explain to him the fact that it takes you a good deal of time to make a good pet, and that by the time you could make one he could easily make the price you were asking for. Or on the other hand you could explain the idea that making the pet needs to be "worth your while" and that essentially you ought to be making the same money off that pet as you would running missions for the time it takes.

If you are a crafter, be assured that at some point you will be accused of ripping people off, and at another point you will be accused by a peer of undercutting. The degree to which that happens will depend somewhat on you, but it's going to happen regardless.

Where new players are concerned that claim they don't have enough money to pay, one thing you might try is to barter, but for things that you need. Recently I had an experience like that. Someone approached me for a non-ch mount. He really wanted one, but couldn't afford my price. So I gave him a hunting contract. At first I told him about a spawn on one of the "adventure" planets that I could use. When it became clear he was *brand* new, having few skills and not much knowledge of the game, I gave him a few tips, and sent him off to corellia to hunt. It took him a couple of days, but darned if he didn't return with a couple of k of fairly decent gubber meat, lol. I think the transaction worked out pretty well. He walked away not only with a pet, but with some bucks in his pocket, some skills, and a lot better appreciation for the game, and I had something I could use for some tissues.

I've had similar things happen to me in the past.

The second person who said you were ripping them off might have see a common yard trash pet sold as a non-ch pet for 1000. It's no comparison to a "tank" pet or evena decent non-ch pet, but I can see it being only 1k. If the person asking to buy the pet is new they might just go for one of these low end pets not knowing the system at all.

I really don't think you were ripping anyone off at 5.4k. Well, maybe yourself depending on the amount of work you put into the pet.

lol i sell VD HP pets for 20k....if a 3k margin is the difference between ripoff and a deal in a players eye, ignore him.

Put it up for 6k on the bazaar and it'll sell within 24h.

If ANYONE EVER says "I can get it cheaper/free from another BE" just say "I suggest you go see that BE then and stop wasting my time" then hit the /addignore macro.

I was trying to dizzy him but he just wouldn't fall over. Any ideas why I couldn't get him on the ground? I'm using a 2 handed saber, and was trying phantom attack and frenzy, and sweep after he was dizzy, but no good. Any advice? I'm new to pvp so don't really know.

Cheers.

I think saberthrow has a better KD chance, for whatever reason. Just based on my empirical evidence.

several things possible here

1.) you need a better saber, even if you got him on the ground he prob. wouldn't be staying there (this is also assuming he has a better saber) should really try and get at least a good gen 3

2.) as stated, thak....even tho you said you were using it...he probably was too

3.) depending on your ability to dizzy him, he may have taken ithorian mist as well (def. vs. dizzy)

4.) strategy. alot depends on what kind of attacks he was using on you. was he using any force powers, or just his saber? if using force powers you could absorb that, or use feedback to send the dmg back on him.

5.) main thing is, especially if you are having to use force armor, you are at a disadvantage on force pool due to the armor drain and have to find ways of causing enough dmg to him to cause him to make him healand drain his own (another reason why absorb might be a help here)

just some ideas...i'm knew to knight-dom myself and dueled someone in my guild last night who is still working on his template...i had him beat except some members of the guild who were watching thought it was funny to heal him and i ran outta force a bit after he did lol

some of the ideas i listed above occured to me after the fact. mainly, be ready to change tactics. i got stuck using the old faithful kd/dizzy and when i couldn't get him kd, tried to merely outdamage him(he had better saber) and tho i did drain his force out, had i used some better tactics (such as absorb/feedback) i might have won even with people healing him

hope these thoughts help
