Thread: Mask Scent
Sorry if it's already been discussed....
but is anyone else getting less mask scent xp now? Not from the obvious delay, but just the amount of xp you get from passing a creature? On Corellia I used to get 124 scouting xp by running by a Crazed Durni, or whatever other type of low level red on that planet.
Now whenI use mask scent I get barely 45 xp per Crazed Durni...that's a huge decrease, is it from gaining skill levels? or what?
Nok
Could you please explain the best way to use this, the way to use it to its full ability, and how to get the most XP.

Use your mask scent, find some red dots and WALK to them. When you see "You have gained "X" exps" you have entered the attack radius and the creatures dont see you.
Pros: Exps are based on the level of creature, higher it is, the more expsyou get. No fighting needed (in theory)
Cons: Things to keep in mind the higher the level of the creature the easier it is for them to see you. Often they are in 2-3 or more and you need to successfully hide from all of them to not get attacked. If your too close you will get attacked. Generally you will get 23-44 exps per creature, not worth a avoidable death IMHO. If you get more than 70 exps your really walking on the edge of death.
If you have mask scent 10 this is a good way to run across the terrian in your underwear.
Heh , i stood masked and petrified 30m from two kimos and got 150 scout xp.
Much the same as id get for killing a couple of womp rats.
Maybe the mask scent rewards should be ramped up a bit. ![]()

I have never ever gotten any xp from my mask scent, I'm BE now so it doesnt matter anymore unless I want to into CH (likely unless BE is fixed). I dont understand how it works. I find red dots on my radar, click maskscent then move towards the creature, nothing. So then I try finding reds, starting maskscent then moving away from the creature, nothing. I played my friends character the other day and turned on maskscent while running around...boom xp, boom more xp.....I couldnt beleieve it, I'm so confused and even a little pissed. Any ideas people?
Can't say that I've never seen xp from maskscent. My tip to you is basically a repeat of what I read somewhere on these forums.
Start off by getting to Exploration IV. Then go to a planet where there are alot of aggressive creatures such as Lok. Put your weapon away, turn maskscent on and just start roaming around. Be careful not to venture too close, like less than 50m from the aggro creature. Sometimes walking instead of running helps too.
Other tips include avoiding non-aggro creatures as they will almost certainly break your maskscent. Also, be ready for your maskscent to be broken ... it's just plain going to happen. When it does, run away from the aggro creatures and watch your radar to see if any are following. When you're sure no one is following then just stop and try applying maskscent again and start the process over.
I did this for like 15 mins last night on Lok and got close to 2000 scouting XP. Too bad I didn't figure this out earlier ... I'm currently working on Hunting IV, but this method probably would plow through the entire hunting series in the matter of an evening or two.
Just my experience, hope it helps.
One thing I noticed is that mask scent got WAY better at exlpor 3 and 4, it was pretty much useless before that. I spent a fair amount of time on tatooine hunting low-level red cons like scyks and diseased bocatts. I found if you mask scent, then sneak up on an aggro creature and fire, you immediately get your mask scent bonus for that creature. It would then work for each successive creature in the lair without them breaking the scent very often. So I was getting scout XP for both shooting AND harvesting creatures. it really helped me to finish off my hunting tree quickly.
