You know, I was almost a Master Bounty Hunter for a short time, and realized that that profession was busted up pretty badly. I made the decision to drop the investigation grind for MBH, and just go Master Pistoleer, BH pistols 4.
I kicked quite alot of tail with that build, not tons, and not against master rifleman, master TKA. heck, I don't think anyone owns them.
Well, after realizing that I was bored with not having a skill to level, I dropped the BH pistols four, so that I could try some melee stuff. Picked up swordsman, heck, it's got a scythe, it's gotta be cool, right? Now I do tons of damage in PvE and still have my Master Gunfighter stuff to fall back on if things get hairy.
Here's the thing though.
In PvP now, I get rocked. Totally, and without mercy, rocked, by everyone on my server, basically. Fully buffed, Drunk on brandy, munching the Synthsteak, and holding my stun layered helmet in my hands, I march out onto the field of battle, only, 5 seconds later to find myself once again, in the cloning center.
Why is this? What exactly is the difference? Some accuracy mods, and eyeshot? I see every different build come my way, and I see them totally rock me, six ways from sunday. I got me a new geno sonic, not bad damage, but it was looted, so it's not uber or anything, and I think I know how to fight some. Maybe I'm not the best at it, but I know I'm not the worst. never the less, when it comes down to actually battle, I get totally "pwn'd" by every punk kid with a blaster. Or some knucks, for that matter. KD never sticks, and when it does, they're back up faster than you can say "nearest Cloning facility".
My Character's name is Medin Holliday, he's quite alot like Doc Holliday from years gone by. When I got the game, my thought was to do master doc, and master gunfighter, just so that I could Role play that.
Bounty Hunter sucked me into it's yawning abyss, and now I'm just a pistoleer with a bit of brawler mixed in.
I suppose this rant is about pistoleers.
When one thinks of the pistoleer, I'm sure most people think of the guy from the west. His eyes squinting against the sun, a pistol on his hip, and a twitchy trigger finger. The kind of guy no one wants to mess with, cause you never know. Is he faster? Is he cold? Can he shoot me with a bullet in his thigh?
In Star Wars Galaxies, the pistoleer is the profession you get for a couple of mods, because it stacks well with the other professions that use pistols. We aren't the steely-eyed gunslinger that our tag would have you believe. We're the average joe profession that everyone else takes to get a few defensive mods, and use their scatter or launcher pistol.
Maybe I yearn for the days when being a MASTER GUNFIGHTER meant I could fight with a gun. Maybe I'm just holding out hope that withone of these "Combat Rebalances" there will be something other than nerfs all around. There might actually be something new in the works.
Although, I for one, don't know how much longer I can hold out hope. I look at the in concept threads, and the in testing threads and see no hope. I see TH saying he's discussing it with the code writers. I see everyone saying "Wait for the Combat Rebalance"
Well, here's a question for you. What combat rebalance? They're putting in a stacking cap. Woohoo. They aren't capping the most abused defensive mods in the game, just the ones we use.
The give us new guns. WooHoo. So some Uber-l33t d00d can sit around and exploit his krayt and get him and all his buddies together and camp some geonosian spawns and make a 600 damage Geno blaster that actually is useless, cause everyone on every server that actually PvP's uses massive stun layers now. They give us a republic blaster with a bleed. A bleed that cycles for 17 damage. Man, that'll put a hurtin' on em'.
Let's see, what else is going into this "rebalance" Can't knockdown an ATST anymore... yeah, what you guys saw in the movies about how they're unstable, and a LOG can make them fall down. That's just not realistic. So we'll make them killing machinesso some some newb with a few points in smuggler can kill everyone he sees.
One thing they AREN'T rebalancing is the fact that almost ALL of our specials are broken, or don't work as intended. Pistol Melee defense 2? Disarming shot? Multi area pistol shot? (Okay, I know that one isn't broken, but it's a pet peeve of mine. So what we hit everything within 60 meters of us... Wow, what a great way to get killed.)
Oh, one more thing. We're up close shooters. Our job is to get up close to someone with a sword, and kill him with a gun. So what do they do? As if it wasn't hard enough as it is, they make it easier for the guy to whack us with his sword, knock us down, and give us a free trip home.
So I guess what I'm saying is this. I'm done with this profession until they fix it, or until World of Warcraft comes out. Whichever comes first. (I'm not holding my breath for a fix, I'm telling you that much)
I suppose what I'm asking is for everyone who feels like I do, to stop using their pistols. Drop the profession. Go do something else.
When they see the amount of pistoleers per server go down, they'll realize we have a problem. I mean, it's not enough to say it, we have to show them. Stop using the gimped out profession they're giving us, and use one that's not. God forbid any of you become riflemen, but well, it works, doesn't it?
I know, alot of people have worked hard to get their pistols up to where they are. I know alot of you have Master Gunfighter stacked with something else that actually makes it useful. But for god's sake, if you want pistoleer to be an okay profession to use, show them how you feel. No one that gets paid by Sony reads these forums anyway, because they don't care to hear little rants from people that don't have the grammar skills to perhaps get their attention.
In closing, I'm done with master gunfighter until it's fixed. I ask you all to join me in this.
