Thread: My hat's off to hardcore BE's

My original spec was the commando/CH combination, before it was too incredibly mainstream. Then I found my first holocron, and figured what the heck, I'll listen to these goofy things.

Like many people, I eventually found myself faced with mastering bio-engineer. Since CH was my favorite skill otherwise, I was looking forward to mastering BE so I could make great pets, pet stims, etc. But when I got to DNA harvesting, it felt like someone kicked me in the chest. It's honestly the worst grind I've ever had the displeasure of enduring, and despite my desire to master the profession and enjoy it for awhile before continuing on my journey, it takes real willpower to get myself to go continue harvesting DNA. I'd usually rather hop into a bathtub and have my wife hurl a toaster into it for fun.

How some of you managed to master that line just out of your enjoyment for the class is beyond me, but I definitely /salute you. That takes patience, to say the least

Thank you. (I think) Actually true patience would be my hunting partner who has to put up with my wanting to periodically get samples while hunting. The one thing worse than sampling/taming is standing aroung while someone else tames/samples.

I actually got dna Sampling IV before I got level IV in any of the other skilltrees. About halfway through my grind to Master BE I found a friend who had a key / mouse macro tool on his PC that I ended up using ti finaly grind out the last 4 skill boxes I needed to get to Master becasue the crafting grind was whbat made me crazy. I grounf out Techniques IV without macros and it was jsut painfull, way more painfull thn getting to DNA Sampling IV.

I don't mind the sampling line, but the other 3 are killing me they're so boring.

Sampling line is actually the easiest, unless you had a ton of meat stocked up for your micro supplements. I didnt actually have to grind it until halfway through box 4. Before then it raised naturally from clone making needs.

While waiting for cloning, DNA sampling was the funnest part of being a BE. Pet stims and tissues are boring, in my opinion, and nobody was buying the clones. So I ran off to different planets seeking the thrill of the sample hunt. If it wasn't red, it wasn't worth messing with. So I'd stand there with my needle, or shoelaces depending on which patch it was, wondering if I would suddenly become lunch to some creature I had no right to mess with. Then I'd have a nice DNA trophy to take home to remind myself of my stupidity.

Of course inventory restrictions turned all those trophies into kahmurras that didn't sell, but ahhh the memories.

Oooohh, honey, I wish you'd ha' seen the other threads in here about this. Pikets on Dantooine are worth more than that, aren't aggro and don't deathblow. And you can get missions for them.

Big differance. I mastered because I wanted to, not because the Devs had this money/time sink dumb way to do the Jedi thing and made it camp wars.

I haven't mastered it yet. I'm doing it because I want to. But DNA sampling xp is easy to get, you can make money at it too. Just take 9k piket missions on Dantooine, and sample their DNA until they die.

Thanks. I just finished DNA last night. If you decide to give it another go I'd recommend Bello Bol's on Nabbo near Thead. I got 299 per sample and they rarely killed me after upsetting them.

Still have to get 290k of BE crafting xp. I think i did the math and its like 74k of meat I need to grind the xp.

I went for DNA first because I liked the "Field Scientist" idea. And it turns out it was the easiest. Seething Bols did it for me. And this isn't back when DNA could get you tons for your own creatures or anything. It took some patience, but nothing at all compared to grinding the three craft lines. Wow, those are killer. So if the DNA line discourages people, I can only think of what the craft line is doing to potentials.
