An example of a special attack would be "bodyshot" (pistol skills in Marksman).

The advantage of bodyshotis that your fire is concentrated on the health of the target, as compared to randomly blasting away and maybe hitting health, action, or mind. This can help you kill your target quicker, because you don't waste time damaging their action and mind stats.

However, if you examine your pistol, you'll notice some numbers at the bottom for special move health, action, and mind cost. So every time you use a bodyshot special attack, it's going to take so many points away from your HAM bars.

So like others have said, special attacks can be an advantage, but they do coststats that can help you die quicker.

Also, Dante - for Overcharge shot, there is no 'power cell' you can check on your gun, this is just in reference to the delay between shots - if you use Overcharge, you'll notice it take 2 to 3 times as long to get off your next shot - the 'reducing power cell' description is just a cool way of saying it will take longer for your next shot to fire - the 'power cell' has to rebuild it's charge, since the Overcharge drains it completely.

Also, using overcharge will reduce the weapons quality much quicker because of the added stress placed on the weapon.

Ooops, lately ive been fighting with only overcharge. Gonna check the quality of my brand new 600credit pistol when i log on.

Anyways, a question. Do ALL special moves use the ammount on the weapon, or is the wepon stats added to what it drains? How does that work.

Special Attacks. How exactly do they work? What is the downside of using them? I read somewhere that they reduce your HAM by a certain amount (depending on weapon used) each time they are used. But I have been using mine constantly and haven't seen any change in my HAM meters when using them.

I also read that using overcharge (for marksmen) will reduce the pistols power cell. How do I tell what state my pistols power cell is at?

Special attacks all have a cost. The cost varies by the move, by the weapon. Berserk (a brawler special) as an example will cost health+action every time you attempt it.

The idea is that they cost you pools, which can actually help you die faster, but have special effects that are worth it (or do more damage, or force posture changes, etc).

All specials have a cost, some specials can be very inexpensive (bodyshot I for example, is usually quite cheap unless you get a weapon with very high special action costs).

I was wondering if there was a thread or a written guide that talks about speical attacks. How they work, what they do, and what are the advantages and disadvatages of using them thanks.

Hiya, I only have enough SP's for one tree of Carbineer. Which tree offers the best special attacks?

If it helps, I'm using these in a support role, I'm going to be a Squad Leader, and I'm looking for something I can use to solo a little bit, but use it mostly in a support role.

Any advice?

If you are just looking for one good tree, then you may want to consider the Carbine Speed tree. Scatter Shot 2 is a nice skill and Wild Shot 2 is an alright area special that causes stun (which seems to lower ranged defense). You will also get +20 speed from doing this as well. With that, you can use Action Shot 1 and 2 for single for group posture change. If you want to split it up, you could go with Burst Shot 1 and Charge Shot 1 and then spend the rest of whichever.
