Thread: REAL THREAD SORRY I took up a dare to from the Chefs to post this thread on pricing BE components
I charge a fair price apparently
. Basically I charge at resale price of components + x% (otherwise I mayas well sell resources......)

Greetings,
I wish there was a way to shorten that title but alas I could not figure it out. It has been said in a couple of the Chef pricing threads that the BEs would laugh a Chef off these boards if we came over and asked the following....
#1 - Would you sell me a case of Micro Nutrients for under 40k?
LOL, I sell BSN for under 40k, and there are others that undersell me. MNS I'd probably sell at around 15k depending on the bonus.
#2 - Would you consider just selling me the schematic at a fair price?
For a fair price, yes I would. Say 30% of the total cost I'd otherwise stand to sell that (made up)product for....
Those two are the hot topics per say.
There seems to be two factions of Chefs, those that charge fair market value and those that charge a fair price regardless of the supply demand theory. Group one, the fair market Chefs, say that the people will pay 250K for a case of brandy so why not charge it? While Group two, the fair price Chefs, only charge cost Xs 2 or X% markup (this could be 75k -150k for brandy depending on the BE component). With this in mind I would like to hear your opinion of the answers to the two questions divided out into the two Chef groups....in other words....
#1 Fair Market Chefs - No way I would sell nutrients for that little, I deserve a bigger piece of the pie that the Chefs are getting!
Fair Price Chefs - Yes, since they are not gouging thier customers I could see lowering my cost to those particular Chefs.
My thoughts are, because I know such a BE, that a fair price chef like myself can meet a fair price BE and both be succesful.
Your thoughts please. or laugh me off these boards
Sorry bout the posting problems.
Actually, I see the issue as being fairly complicated. There are those that sell for "what it's worth" and those that sell for "what it costs". Neither "side" is "wrong" per se.One is a "nut's and bolt's" business type person, the other an entrepreneur. Ifpeople can get away with charging4-5 times what an item costs to manufacture, then we only have ourselves to blame (as in "real life").
My MS crates are 40+'s for just over 4K and 50+'s for just over 8K...
Unless you don't mean crates when you say "case".
Anymore I just sell schematics so yes, I'd sell a schematic at a fair price. I charge a flat rate depending on the item count the schematic makes.
See, you didn't get laughed off the BE forum. You actually got clear honest answers. ![]()
I'd say you'reloosing money selling it at that!
Goingon standard rates, a crate of MS's cost's10,000 even before youadd anything on to it for profit (15 meat @ 15cr = 225 + 35 flora @ 5 cr = 175; 225 + 175 = 400 x 25 = 10,000. (The meat price could well be too low at 15, a lot of people use 20-50 CPU for good meat in large stacks depending on the type).
The resources for a crate of BSN@ cost15k.
The main point from this?
If you are collecting your own resources, you could actually sell your resources for more than you are selling your final product ![]()
If you aren't collecting them yourself, and your paying standard prices, it costs you more to make them than what you make from a sale.

I must be seriously underselling my stuff.

fantoq wrote:What I see is that if we all look at truthful total costs, this just spirals out of control due to the interdependency of professions.Docs and BEs use brandy (probably others, but those are the two I know). If I pay 250K for a case of Brandy, I'm gonna raise my prices across the board to cover that. CH's end up paying more for pets and raise their prices for selling meat. Docs raise buff prices; same effect on all fighting classes and same effect on resources.
I've tried to price my crates of chef tissues fairly for just this reason. On Naritus most chefs sell a crate of brandy (haven't noticed if it's BE or not) for 300k. There are a few who will sell it for 150-165k. I price mine at 5 cpu for flora and 15 cpu for meat, which yields a price which is about 1/3rd of what the high sellers are using. I don't have a vendor so all my sales so far are auctions or special orders from previous customers. I have a running deal for 40k/crate for nanos. I've got a special order I'm finishing up for 75k/crate for BSNs but he wanted a full 1k run. Micros I sell to a preferred customer who I did doc resource harvesting for at 10250 cred/crate. And all my customers have given me crates of food or big discounts on it.

Jesus.
I've been paying (max)2.5cpu for flora and (max) 6cpu for good quality meat.
I think I'm either just very lucky or on a veryunique galaxy.
Every server differs in pricing.
