Thread: WTH!? is up with these people and schematics
I wonder if a Chef would give up their schematics for Vasarian Brandy or if an armorsmith would give up their schematic for Composite Armor pieces.
I know that there are some BE's out there that gladly sell their schematics for pennies on the dollar, but this is my business, but these schematics have netted me several Million credits and I hold them tightly.
Anyhow, /rantoff

Seven to Ten times per day I get tells, sometimes snotty tells too, demanding that I create them a schematic. Had one guy yesterday e-mail and demand that I make him 5 schematics. Needless to say I have a standard response for these, No.

i know where you are coming from. I either get tells about making schematics or chefs want additives dirt cheap, yet they turn around and sell a crate of brandy for 100-300K. I make em when I make em, chefs dont like it too dam bad. I dont see how u can cry poor and only offer to pay 10k for a crate of additives then turn around and sell a crate of food for 100-300k
And if they don't, well, I'm not in this to make them happy if they aren't willing to make me happy too, so they can find another sucker to sell them a schematic for cheap. You should expect at least a 50% markup if you buy the crates themselves, so on a full 1000 tissue run this ends up being around 600-800k profit for the BE. Buying schematics saves the chef considerably (you could probably charge a lot more for schems and you'd still get buyers) as long as he is capably of supplying the ingredients himself, and the BE doesn't have to hassle with it. Now, for max profit you still need to make them yourself, but I'm perfectly fine settling for less hassle.
Hi guys, I'm relatively new to the BE profession 1-2-4-2, something I inted to keep along with MCH. I've seen a lot of talk about schematics and selling but I have no clue what you mean? A certain type? Why would anyone want to sell a schematic? Why do the chefs want them so much? What are they making with them?
Sorry if my question seems a little naieve.

The deal is chefs need BE additives for their foods. Although it is not a requirement to make food with BE additives, you do get laughed at pretty badly if you try to sell food without the additives. The additives increase the power of the food greatly. So rather than buy the additives from BEs and have that cut into an already nice profit margine, the chef wants to have a schematic made of the additive for them so they can make it themselves.
Personally I have a pet wookie that makes the schematics for me and he even loads them into the factories himself. Now that is service and doesn't cost me a thing, he is just a pet wookie after all. Course when he gets that look on his face, you know that wookie look they get before they tear your arms off, I tend to toss him a bone, like a kryat enhanced DX6 rifle or maybe a 1 mil tip. That short of thing. But really that is just because I am nice fish.
The additude most BEs face is due to most chefs being rather resentful that they must use BE additives or they are out of business. Most would like to do away with them so they can make the food all by themselves. Personally I think they need to get themselves a pet wookie and be done with it.
As for the rude chefs, two things, /ignore, and my pet wookie's title is Hunter for a good reason. Though the only thing he hunts these days is DNA. Even he is too good to be a mear meat collector. ![]()
I guess a brawler should be able to make their own armor or a pistoleer should make their own guns. ![]()
A chef doesn't have to go to a BE as you've mentioned but if they want a better product they will need our help. The same goes with tailors. The part that strikes me as odd is tailors treat me with so much more respect than chefs. I have found a very nice chef that I make schematics for. I charge her based on the quantity of the build. She always tips me more than I ask. I'll make schematics for her anytime she wants because of the respect she extends to me.
If someone demanded schematics from me and told me what the price would be I'd belly laugh at them and walk away.
One, Chefs have a very hard time finding BE's that would just sell the finished additives. Two, Chefs are required to have the BE additives to be remotely competitive. Three, Chefs in general have to gather up all the resources needed for the BE additives if they want a chance of getting them made. Four, BE attitudes are all over the place on making schematics, but basically a large number are very snobbish about taking a few hundred of some resources that a Chef collected at no cost/trouble to the BE and then experimenting on a one line schematic for them spending less than 5 minutes to do several and that's with failures.
These bad analogies don't help that attitude either, as Chefs aren't asking you for schematics for all the subs for petstims and then asking for schematics for final combine on petstims, which would be comparable to the general comment on BE's asking for schematics of Vasarian Brandy and the like. I have tested the Chef side of that asking chefs to make me schems of desirable foods using subs I had and guess what--some would and some wouldn't. It's just that the situation isn't really comparable.

Ok rude people are rude people and deserve to be ignored. But, as the leader a of a guild that has had multiple master BE's and Chefs (including ones from way back), let me elaborate on a few things.

This is where you go horribly wrong. The cost to the BE is the skill. That is why chefs go to master BE's and not a novice BE ![]()
You're real quick about pointing out how hard it is for the chefs and in the same breath call the BE's snobs. Its almost as if you think a BE won't make a schematic just out of spite. Let me tell you, chefs can be very demanding and they get very critical at the cost involved. Is the BE a snob for not making a schematic or is the chef arrogant for demanding a particular price?
Asking a chef for a schematic is identical to asking a BE for a schematic. A schematic is a schematic. Yes, I'd have to ask for a group of schematics from a chef but chefs don't ask me for one particular schematic. They ask fora variety of them.Using your reasoning, if I collect all the resources a chef should just take a sample, experiment, and give me a schematic. Its no cost/trouble to the chef at all right? Should they charge me little or nothing knowing full well how much money I can make from those schematics? The situation is exactly the same for a BE.
Actually most chefs are very nice
I think the reason that there are so many stories of the rude cheapskate chefs is that a rude cheapskate chef has to ask 100 BEs and a polite fair chef usually only has to ask one
