Thread: Talthazar: another for your list: Please nerf sampling of clones
I just finished re-reading Mattakar's awsome post on pet crafting. Possibly what he's learned will change in the next patch, but for now at least, it's an excellent summary.
One part of the post depressed me terribly. It is clear that the best way of creating high level pets is not to go out into the wild and sample creatures of terrifically high level, but to create your own high-level creatures using junk DNA and sample them. Not having to deal with travelling, searching and dying much reduces the time involved.
I think this removes a great deal of the fun from the game, reducing DNA sampling to a grind, and removing the need for elite ranger-samplers.
I would like to see DNA sampled from tame creatures heavily nerfed so that wild DNA has a large advantage.
Thoughts?

Thanks, Tal, problem solved.
Heh, I'm not sure everyone will see it that way. There are many that seem to prefer the DNA distilling method.
Yup, Tal, wish there was an edit facility here...
Graeme, I agree with you, but the key is, whatever system is in place should involve challenge, not just grinding out samples from junk-dna creatures until the double-900's pop up. He who makes the best creatures should not be determined by tolerance for tedium.
"Please nerf sampling on clones" ![]()
Other then to start the whole debate again about needing to be a Ranger also in order to be an adequate Bioengineer, I'm not so sure about this "need".

Not trying to be facetious here, but...why not? It's work. It's not work you find interesting, but it's still work. Probably takes longer to do by 'distilling' than by going out and getting my butt incappedonce too often too quickly and dying and having my stuff decay, but that's the trade off I'd rather...taking longer and using more resources to avoid the whole death mess. I don't find dying amusing. I like making things. That's what I'm here for, to make pretend stuff in a pretend world using pretend skills I'd never be able to even comprehend outside this pretend galaxy.
I've made stuff from junk DNA from chubbas and durnies distilled into second and third generation blurrgs, gurrecks and rancors; I've made stuff from wild DNA off voriotrs and pickets and bol. It's really six to one, half dozen to the other. Consistent results over a longer period of time or possibly better results with more interesting scenery running the risk of death and decay...eh, I'd rather work sitting down and be able to run out to my factory and mess with my tons of component crates when I need to. And talk to the folks who wander into my lab. And drop it all on a moment's whim and run about a klick into town, rather than haul my butt back to the outpost, buy a ticket home, etc. etc. etc.
Okay, so sampling pet deeds out of your pack isn't your cup o' tea. I think it makes more sense and is more bio-engineering-like versus "Crikey! Watch me put my elbow in thissnorbal's cloaaca!" out in the field. Like using lab-grown samples?
Luke, are you even a BE??? I see a lot of trolls running around saying nerf this and nerf that. Man you don't even know what you are talking about. If you make a critter from clone dna it won't be as good as the ones you can make from the real thing, no matter how high the numbers are.
Do you have ANY idea how long it takes to get a decent set of DNA from sampling??? I think not. Give the BE a try before you spout off!
On the other hand, it's nice to be able to make some nice low level critters from high CL clones. They might not be as good as the ones you make from non-clone dna, but at least you have something to sell.
We aren't like artisans who can put together some resources and get 1,000 weapons. This takes time. I figureI spend 5-10 hours of sampling before I get one really good set of dna. I am also a Master CH. I can spend two hours looking and come back with as many tamed babies as I can carry.
Stop trolling with the nerf this and nerf that unless you've been there!
I don't understand at all why people insist on calling for nerfs on an alreadybroken class, whats the point? So you have a vision of how the class should be played: great. Why try to make everyone else follow your vision?
Presently there is two different and viable ways to play the class when it comes to dna/cloning, in my book thats a good thing. Actually, I think thats a great thing ![]()
