Thread: Is a new cloning system even going to matter?????

I dont know about anyone else, but this question is really bugging me. I'm starting to believe that the 60% of our class that deals with clones is going to come up way short on whats its supposed to do. Heres why.

I have a distinct feeling that the creature balancing is done of the CH side of things rather than the BE side of things leaving us very little room to really improve on whats in the wild. I mean look at a BE'd rancor vs a wild rancor in its current state. I have a friend with an 11.5K Ham rancor, and with a 12.5K HAM rancor I can make (roughly tops from what I've read), I can upgrade a rancors tanking ability by a whopping 8%. Now I can also effect damage, but considering that the attack speed goes up correspondingly, I'm not really sure we effect dps as much as we think.

And now they have said they are going to release CL60 pets into the game for CH to trame. Well, lets add 10 levels to a rancor. Does anyone in their right mind think they are going to allow us to build a 14-15K HAM pet for CH to use. I mean, whats our ceiling here? How much control are the devs going to give us to create superior creatures in reality before they realize it make CH overpowering?

Sorry, not really meant as a rant or anything, just wondering if anyone else has these concerns as well?

Well considering their are things out their that spawn with over 80,000 HAMs and 100 resistance to everything and Heavy Armor.

And no this is not a Krayt Dragon....Krayts are not that strong...but then again are not to be scoffed either.

So given that...I would say why not allow a Bio_engineer to make more powerful things.

Although it would be nicer to impose restrictions like say to do so you have to use DNA from a different Bio-engineer.

But thats just my thought on this subject.

By the way, your 12.5k rancor will last less then a second to the things I have run into.

We have been told that a MBE will be able to make a creature with stats that go several levels beyond its stated cl. Granted, I don't know how muchleeway we get in this. Maybe the reason they haven't pushed our changes through is because they're trying to come up with a balanced answer to this very question. We can hope that they're trying to balance our profession with the CH before going live and nuking our marketonce again. From various hints and assumptions (we have made changes to combat medic and bio-engineers that will be implemented shortly-paraphrase, pardon my memory)it sounds like the code for our clones is already written. So this could be the thing that is holding it up. When doing their CH review they had better leave room at the top for us. There's a little bit of room in the creature thing between what is "fair" and what is "unbalanced." We should sit cleanly in the "super-but-not-over-the-top" category. I hope they figure out what that is and soon. Basically take whatever the CH'sshould comfortably haveand knock the wild creatures down about five levels. Five levels, and the creature skin and color of your choice, should be worth paying a BE for.

As far as uber pets go, kimos aren't usable by CHs now because they're level 75. But someone posted that with new cloning system, we could make weaker kimos, maybe 65-70, so they would be tameable.

Will the new cloning system matter.

Does santa clause matter? Of course he does...he motivates children's specials and those schmucks at the mall and bad traffic and angry shoppers and cookies left on the mantle and stockings hung by the chimney with care.

And he's just a lie, too...

Ok the next person to say this is gonna find me taking a clone kimo and beating them over the head with it until they stop getting their facts from old databases. Kimogila start at CL90 as a minimum, we have no idea what the clone one is but it's definently NOT CL75.

Well, making the major assumption that they don't follow one of my previous sarcastic remarks and make the BE patch exclusive to early adopters who preordered through the lucas arts store with the collector's edition, and then only when the space expansion is released...

The proposed cloning changes will make a HUGE difference for the bio engineer. From little stuff like changing colors to important stuff like pet special attacks and features to stuff that should have been in from day 1 like 100% working pet schematics.

Unfortunately those of us who have been waiting since day 1 really have a hard time believing anything is comming at all. Way back we were told fixing the code was not something swg wanted to do so instead we were going to get a rewrite. Those still waiting are now of the opinion we've been back-burnered or canned entirely.

We did see some improvements to the tissues line, to the developer's credit, and to my knowledge (I don't make tissues beyond petstims and vit packs) they all work. As with every enhancement comes it's share of bugs, like needing milk, eggs, and mollusks in large quantities (does milk even exist in the game as an item in single quantities? I don't think I've ever seen a carton I know bolle bol don't have udders), and petstims above B are frankly not that useful being from what I'm told the enhancement from B to C to D is minimal and very much not worth the time spent fishing to make one, much less a factory crate of them.

Our class is the enchanter class for crafters. That said we are the least important of all classes, and will get the least attention and staffing allocation. The clone wars are over, so we have no purpose in the existing SWG universe. Our existance does not make the game more or less "starwars-y", and thus unfortunately, we are left with a single programmer who by now has to hate us for all the vile things that have been said about him. Check it out, what DO we do? We make items that can enhance the creations of 2 other master classes: chef and tailor. Chef is the most under-used class (TMK it's as borked as we are), and tailors are not a dime a dozen... I think we outnumber them 2 to 1, though I haven't checked the numbers. Aside from that we make pets that are somewhat substandard for novice CH that are too lazy to take a walk across Yavin 4 to pick themselves up some decent armor plated acid spitting pets. Face it we cater to about 1/2 of 1% of the swg population on any given server. We are the epitome of unimportant. The only thing going in our favor at this point in time is we make CH pets last longer with our pet stims and pet vitality packs... and realistically speaking, normal stimpacks are far superior to petstims, because you can use two stim-B for every single petstim you use.

Finally I ask... how many bio engineers are NOT creature handlers? it's 68 skill points of grinding for the privelidge to make your own pets and you know it. Nothing wrong with that, just stating the facts. I became bio engineer, found out I couldn't use my own pets, and became creature handler. BE/CH is just DE split into two professions with differring themes.

I think some of you are missing my point. Having total control over final creature creation is great. I cant wait for it to go in. It just seems though that the CH class is going to be balanced with wild pets (not BE pets) in mind. That means for every little adjustment we do, its that much more unbalancing, leaving us very little room between what a CH can tame in the wild and our virtual ceiling of how strong we can make creatures.

Personally I think the BE cloning changes will put us in high demand among CHs. As a CH/BE I just can't wait to see the changes hit TC. While I realize our cloning system is rather messed up nowI have been able to adapt and make pets that the CHs on my server find desirable, enough to pay 200k+ for. Several other MBEs on Lowca also do not seem to be finding problems with their target market.

Great question! I can honestly say I was totally blinded by the aspect of getting a fix that I never really thought about whether it would make a difference. When you look at the proposed fix at face value it makes a huge difference from the way things are TODAY.

That's the rub though isn't it? By the time the big fix finally comes about, non-creature handlers will have CL10 or lower with the possibility of only owning one pet (most likely a mount). Creature handlers will have had time to tame the new wild critters and decide which is the new tank. Don't be lulled by critter mounts lest we forget the speeders. Mounts will already be all over the place. Speeders will become the new "tickle me elmo" that everyone is going to want. Very few people are going to seek out a CL10 dewback or bol when they can buy a shiny new speeder instead.

By the time our proposed fix finally comes out I predict pet wars will have come to an end or been drastically reduced. Our market will again be creature handlers who typically go out and tame their own critters just to see if they can actually do it.

DJC,

It's funny that in your message there is almost not a single thing that I agree with, lol, except of course your main point that the proposed cloning changes will make a big difference to us, whichkinda gets lost in all the other stuff you are saying.

http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Character%20Metrics

We certainly do not outnumber tailors 2-1, and I don't see how you can say we cater to such a small population with a straight face. Between the rappidly growing market of bio engineered clothing (which of course we sell to through the tailors) and the pet pharma products and pets, my guess would be more like we reach 50% of the SWG universe on a given server. There are of course some folks that we have nothing for (e.g. pretty much any character who does not participate in combat and choses not to own an animal pet) but we still reach a huge number. A quick look at any BE's bank account that has been playing a while will tell the "true" story here.

Even those CH's who tame all of their own pets, have a lot of medical skill, and heal their pets with regular stims and "tricks" (like you make it sound like they all do), they still must buy vitality packs from us, and of course we all know that many of them buy creatures and pet stims from us as well, even now. Hopefully the "buy" vs "tame" ratio will tilt more to our favor though when (if?) the cloning changes are implemented. We'll see, I have every hope that it will. Then of course there is mounts. *sigh*, I wish we had something more compelling to sell there as well, but still we're going to be a player in this, perhaps just not an exclusive one.

Oh, and about the BE/CH thing, I know many that are, but many are not. A quick glance at the sigs in this forum tell the story pretty well I think. I'm certainly not a CH, and I suspect that the CH nerf aimed at removing the "dabblers" from CH is going to make many BE's give up their CH skill since you'll now need to be very high level CH to use the "good" pets we can make.
