Thread: DUPLICATING RESOURCES FROM THE PAST FEW DAYS WILL HAVE LONG TERM AFFECTS...NEED 3 DAYS OF ROLLBACK
For those who are not familiar with the "duplicating bug" , over the past few days (heavily), and maybe even longer, who knows, people have been able to duplicate resources....I have heard someone even took a screenshot of a person with a million copper.....now imagine what consequences this will have.
The duplication of resrouces will have long term consequences.....people who worked very hard to master their professions will now be joined by a myriad of peeps who duped resources and did it in a few days....not to mention peeps with insane amounts of resources will be able to undersell anyone in the future, and the crafters who didnt duplicate might as well turn in their profession(or quit as I will if this isnt solved).
As hard as this may sound, I think we need about a good 3 days of rollback to put a permenant fix to this problem. If there is no way for the devs to track every duped resource, this i feel is the only solution. Any crafter who objects to this idea obviously duped resources themselves, as any crafter in their right mind would be for this....this will frustrate a lot of people short term...but the entire crafting community will be damaged permenantly if this is not fixed. All those who agree...please respond below.
Wow. I was just thinking about all the stuff I did in the last 3 days. I built 3 large harvesters, and filled 2 orders to other people. It would really be pretty crappy if I lost all my time because some people cheated, but I almost think it would be worth it considering how crippling this could be to the economy ( which was pretty bad to begin with.)
I hope the devs find a way to track down all the people who felt the need to cheat to get ahead.
I would rather be rolled back a week than let any spineless cheater prosper.
In the short term it will hurt the economy but in the long term no one will know the difference.

You're obviously not very bright. If a duper has stocked piled, say, 10million of the highest quality copper and is a Master Weaponsmith. He could be using the same copper 6 months from now when the server resource shift is on crappy copper for everyone else. His guns would be far superior than a majority of the other weaponsmiths becuase he has access to better resources, which he got from exploiting. AND he can sell them for half the price ofwhat other smiths are charging because he doenst have to worry about obtaining more copper. So you tell me how no one will know the difference...

If they roll me back 3 days, I would quit the game entirely. I spent hours finding someone to make me a fusion generator, earning money, found 2 rare pets, got several boxes in my master profession....need I go on.

Call of the Roll Back!
Taragin would loose his 2 precious pets. We cant have that happen.
And if he Quits....... Dont even want to think about loosing a single CH....
Everyone is limited by skill points, those havn't been duplicated.
"If a duper has stocked piled, say, 10million..."
Um, can't you imagine that possilbly, it might be easier to locate those chars with 10million copper and ban them for cheating.
If your enjoyment of the game is tied to how hard it is for everyone to reach your "level" then you will never have fun in SWG.
A 3 day roll back is insane. Completely insane.
I just started a crafter last night, but before that I was playing 1 of my 2 other chars quite a bit. Some people stick with just one and put plenty of hours into it. I know nothing of this exploit besides the few posts I have seen about it. it sounds like it sucks and will probably mess the economy up. However, a 3 day rollback for all characters on all servers is hardly a solution. All it would do is get about 20% + of current subscribers to just give up on all this BS and cancel. I know I would be one of them.
They need to fix it, and maybe track down and suspend accounts of those who used the exploit.
That's about it.
This exploit HAS in fact been in since before retail... But I don't think it's ruining everyone's gameplay as much as doing a complete roll back on all the servers. I think that most of the exploiting of this bug is going on on the first servers up more than the others... And there is a lot more going on in this game than just people crafting. You are asking for every player in every galaxy to suffer for a problem that won't really get fixed by a short rollback.
I'm not, however, saying that you are wrong to think that something should be done about this exploit. Clearly it needs to end and end soon.
As far as the future being ruined goes... perhaps when they fix the exploit they should give resources a time based decay... they do have durability after all. If it was made so that resources would slowly dissapear at a rate that would vanish them in, say, six months it shouldn't affect people who made their resources honestly and obviously get rid of concerns for long term stockpiling.
Why six months? That way we are assured that by the time Space Expansion comes out, people haven't exploited to get the resources to build ships. To me that's the next problem. (Yeah I know that vehicles will be a problem, but not a big as space ships to most people)

I AM a crafter, I did NOT dupe and if they roll back 3 days I will be VERY upset.
I got a lot done in the last 3 days, and I got 2 fusion reactors and a factory. The factory was cheap too, just happened to be standing next to a guy in the bank trying to unload it. I got novice rifleman, I got some merchant skills etc.
I understand the impact of the dupe, but 3 days of play vanishing? For everyone? Just eliminate all stacks of 300,000 or more of a resource. Yeah sure, people will have duped for less, but it won't have those kinds of long term effects you're worried about.
A 3 day rollback? That's a good way to spark a mass subscription cancellation.
I don't know if it is possible to 'catch' those who duplicated resources, but you are right in that it would seriously hurt the economy. However, I don't know if a rollback of three days would revert all the duping (assuming that there were very many who did this) or if perhaps an even further rollback, say a week would be needed? And then maybe we could roll back even further to remove all the baz nitch exploit gains too? Eventually we would be back at day 1 and everyone would be restarting completely.
The dupers were using a deliberate exploit and if caught should be banned, but the rest of us should not have to be penalized.
