Thread: Crafting system change idea
Hello,
I'm a Doc, and spend a lot of my time doing crafting, and have come up with a few ideas for crafting changes that I think might be kind of cool, and thought I'd drop them on the artisan board for other crafters to consider and comment on.
Two ideas that go together (they are co-dependent on each other):
1) Optional Component Slots on draft schematics: Right now, when I make a stim or medpack, as a Doc, my stims and meds are basically the same as any other Docs. Maybe a little bit more or less effective, or have a few more or less charges. I'd like to be able to make some 'unique' items. That is, items that not every other Doc is making too. How do you accomplish this in an mmorpg setting? Put in an optional component slot on higher levels stims/meds (this could easily apply to any crafted item). What I put in that optional component slot makes the item unique. Perhaps higher level crafted items would have 2 or 3 optional component slots.
What do you put in the optional component slot?
This is where idea 2 comes in:
2) Lootable/Faction Purchase/Quest ItemSchematics. Right now, you just sorta GET all your schematics as you level, and there is no way to acquire more. Start putting special effect component schematics into the game, some might drop from high level mobs, some might be purchased with faction points, some might be awarded for completing a quest, etc. These schematics could be used with an appropriate factory type to produce a limited number of the special components (maybe up to 50 for lower-level special effect components, and possibly as low as 1 for really UBER components).
So, when crafting an item, or creating a factory schematic, you could drop one of these special effect components into the optional component slot (the type of special effect component you can drop into your item of course depends on the type of item you are creating - a special gun component wouldn't make any sense to use with a stimpak), and that special effect component adds a unique, or semi-unique, special effect to your item, so it is slightly different than the same base-items made by other crafters.
