Thread: What determines limits on experimentation?
A while ago I was making items that I could experiment up to 60% effectiveness. Now when I try to make the same item at the same crafting station, I can only get it up to 18% effectiveness. The only difference is that I am using different resources. I've been experimenting with different resource combinations, but I can't determine what resource stats affect the limits on experimentation. Has anyone figured this out?

Some of it has to do with the stats of the materials you are using vs what the item you are making asks for.
Some (supposedly) has to do with the quality of your craft tool and station - this appears to be broken or very minor difference.
Some has to do with your level of skill vs how high the item is in your skill tree. The higher you are the more points you can spend on experimentation.
The biggest changes I can make in anything I craft is using better materials with stats as close to 1000 as possible for the specific stats the item calls for.
oh forgot to add, when you click a schematic in the craft tool, but dont start the crafting yet, you can see what stats that item wants. It may say part 1 : 100% conductivity part 2: 100% decay resistance, for example. This would likely mean you have a metal and a 'chemical' component and the metal one wants as much conductivity as you can get. the other part, chemical in this case, wants decay resistance to be high but doesnt care about the other stats.
You sometimes get a 50/50 split or whatever, in that case it is best to get the highest in all suggested stats.

What determines the numbers of boxes you can experiment ON is the quality of the materials in the indicated fields...for instance, making weapon powerups, Conductivity is the primary quality, and so materials with higher conductivity create a final product that has more potential, and hence, more boxes to experiment on.
This also plays in to the initial ratings in each of the experimentation areas.
The higher quality crafting tools determine how often you will suffer a critical failure supposedly (along with the quality of the crafting station itself), although this seems to be broken, as I fail as often with a tool of efficiency 14.5 as with a tool that's -10. The skill of the person determines how many experimentation points they get to then use to try to build up the stats in the final crafted product.
