Thread: Power Ups...What the....and pricing ?
Ive added Weapon Upgrade Kits and Weapon Repair kits to my weapons vendor and Im looking at making a start in Weapon Power ups.
Is there a FAQ / Resource I can read up on....ive done several searches and founc nothing.
Any ideas on pricing ?
I noticed for example melee upgrade kits seem a bit random as to which attributes kick in....I assume the hitting things community would like a damage/speed powerup...is there a price guide (per point of improvement) ?
Im after ballpark stuff not your personal plan...although ill take that too.
Thanks, Bob'the Builder

Sitting at work, I cannot remember if it is Conductivity or OQ on power-ups, but I believe OQ.
If you run with 1000OQ metal and 1000 OQ Chemical, you also have the chance fo creating a 32/16/8 or 32/16/6 power up. Those are prized posessions indeed... and just as randomly generated

Haruspex what server are you on? I too (on Starsider) never have any real competition. Thats not to say i wouldnt enjoy it, but the only other power ups i ever see are obviously made by a novice artisan (low stats) who in his own mind is a master (high price).

I won't say it is quite that extreme on Scylla. Often someone makes a run of high stat powerups, but I rarely see more than a week or two of competition at a time. Mostly, the "competitors" don't know how to market them. They either design the product wrong (who cares about a 32% health ranged powerup?), try and sell them inthe wrongtown, sell too cheaply, package it wrong. Or more often, some combination of the above, like the guy whose case I bought and sold as singles for the same price as his case.
I think, like mining, it is only easy once you have enough experience. And I don't mean the kind that comes in points.

I stick to the ranged power ups due to constant demand. The melee kits never sold too well. As for pricing it really varies by server, but on each server, like mine im sure, it varies in price based on demand. But ill tell you i have taken crates, which my guild mate will sell for 2000 creds (thats a crate of ten) and broken the crate to sell each one separately on the bazaar. I have seen them go for as much as 3500 EACH. Now thats a hell of a profit margin. I usually sell them about 1500 to 2000 apiece but then thats on my server but you can still pull in some good money. The thing is the power up business is not a Get-Rich-Quick scheme, it will take some time to move them but they will go.
Indeed! I too regularly sell good powerups on the Bazaar for 2000 each and have been doing so for a very long time. They made me a millionaire eventually. I make my own, and for a while thought it was my fine brand name that sold them. Well, it may help, but I ran outone day and was too lazy to do another factory run. I bought a case on the bazaar for 1500 and put the individual ones up at that price each. They all sold, several to one character.
I still find this a little hard to understand, but the following facts come into play on the price:
The bazaar catagories are a mess, and cases of powerups are burried in Misc/Factory Crates
- A powerup will last most of a hunting trip, so some people buy only one or two
- The bazaar is oftenslow, and player time short, so it can pay a player to take the first good one he finds, pretty muchregardless of price.
- High priced ones are likely to be better, but you have to call up the stats to be sure.
So high priced, good, powerups sell fairly well, but then, you might ask, why isn't the bazaar flooded with them? Well the following itemskeep the competition down:
- With the 25 item limit, stocking the bazaar with $2k powerups can only yield $50k, (and it may take several days elapsed time).
- The bazaar is often slow, so stocking the bazaar with 25 items takes some time, add travel and manufacturing timeto that.
- There is a big learning curve to start selling powerups successfully. You need good resources. Getting a good schematic isn't easy, though it is mostlya matter of luck. Learning what stats sell, at what locations, and for how much takes a while.
- Established brands sell better, so sales build up slowly.
So it is a business that is slow to start and not hugely profitable. Players seem to try it for a while and drop out, so I have not seen any steady competition. But if you are a casual player willing to invest in learning how and an hour or so a couple times a week it will give a good return on that investment.
It gets a bit dull in the long run, though. I have kind of lost interest in keeping it up.

My DE business is pretty much non existent so Ive been selling these. Min Max damage ones sell the quickest, but for some reason never more than 1000 per case on my server. Muzzles are the best for the Min/Max damage.
I make melee powerups for my guild mates. They are the easiest power up to get three stats going IMHO. Melee with speed are always in demand, and ones that boost the point blank mod are helpful as well. (I wonder if they work on knucklers)
Trial and error. Just make sure you have a nice supply of mineral and chemical and sit there and experiment experiment experiment. I dont evenbother with producing them when its one I dont want, I just cancel the crafting session and start over.
