Thread: Resource Timers & Maint/Power on Deeds

I just had a couple of ideas from some minor additions I wanted to throw out and see what folks thought.

  1. Resource Time Indicator: I'm thinking it would be very helpful to have a time listed after a resource in the survey tool just to state how many days it has been around from Day 1 to Day 10. At least folks would then have some idea to decide if they want to risk dropping a harvester on a resource based on the odds of it shifting in the very near future.
  2. Maint & Power Levels on Deeds: Since harvesters and such can now carry-over maintenance (minus the redeed cost) and power in the deed with them, I keep thinking it would be very helpful to be able to see what those levels are on any particular deed I examine in my inventory.

I think that when examining the deed, it should be able to report how much remains in maintenance and power deposited. Since you can't retrieve either from the deed anyway, this is just a housekeeping advantage for players with several similar deeds.

I don't think we need the day to day countdown, because the shifts are supposed to be unpredictable. If the developers decide that the players can tell immediately how long a resource will be around, then telling us would be fair. Unfortunately, I doubt this will be the case, especially if a new miner profession should exist. That would be a considerable profession advantage to distinguish them from regular artisans.

Even if there were such a profession introduced, I doubt the Developers would do so. (I favor the addition of a professional miner.)

I didn't mean a countdown timer, only a timer showing how long a resource has been in existence. We have some crude methods for doing that right now, primarily location in the tool display where newer resource will bump their category to the top (but that still doesn't necessarily tell you WHICH resources under that category are the newer ones) and the buf that doesn't let you hand-sample the first day of a shift.

I just think it would be very helpful in handling the many complaints about the unpredictability of resources to at least know how long a resource has been around. If it's day 1 of that reosurce it would show Day 1 by the name. We still don't know how long that resource will be around, since they are all randomized 5-10 days from inital spawn, but it can give you an idea for risk assessment on the wirth of trying to drop a harvester on a resource that looks like it is getting older and may shift soon.

Agree with deeds showing maintenance and power remaining...not sure how hard this would be to code..

Disagree with something saying how long a resource has been there...*shrug*..i agree..it's an inconvenience to not know..but part of mining resources is paying attention. Once a shift has stopped spawning new resources for whatever i usually mine (usually minerals), I jsut take a couple of screenies of my survey tool or a harvester's change-resource window (more convenient) and it's a quick, easy reference. I'm not sure about flora...but resource shifts happen at GENERALLY the same time on all planets. Resources may take a couple of days to complete spawning..but then it's stable for a few days..as long as you know when the new shift started, you're good to go. while i do not think mining needs to be super-hard (like the harvester change that almost was!), i don't think it should be made as easy as possible either.
