Thread: Why don't we have an in-game calculator?

It seems like such a simple thing to do...add a calculator so you can rapidlyfigure things like:

- Resources required for a factory run of X number of items

- Prices for lots of resources (I hate having to Alt-Tab out of the game or find my regular calculator to figure out the price for 2700 units at 6.5 cpu, and other oddball stuff like that)

- X% volume discounts

-Power and maintenance for harvesters, as well as BER vs. concentration percentage to get ballpark harvesting figures- seems awfully silly that folks have had to create external spreadsheets for such an important in-game thing

- PE vs. actual power available when dealing with solar / wind/ radioactives

These are just a few things off the top of my head, and I'm sure there are other cases where having a readily available calculator would be beneficial.

I totally agree with you, but I was flamed to the bitter end when I proposed this in the SWG discussion board.

Must have been a lot of math majors in that forum.

I agree, how hard is it to put in an in-game calculator?

Calculator and Note pads would be very nice. A great idea flamed by fools...sigh when will the prejudice against the crafting classes come to an end?

I have no opinion on an in-game calculator. I keep Excel running on my second monitor for those types of things. (Dual monitors also helps!)

However, there is a notepad in the game. You can fire it up with the /notepad command. It uses the notes.txt file in your SWG installation folder, so you can update it from outside the game if you like. The notepad window is very simple, closing it causes it to save automatically.

Hope that helps!

This is going to sound dumb, but is there a good way to get the copy paste comand. someone said you could redefine your keys? do you need to do this in windows or in SWG?

hahahaha...one SHOULD be flamed for this "suggestion"... The devs have enough crap to fix and content to implement without providing people with a mechanic to perform simple math they should have learned in elementary school.

I heard someone created these things called pencils and paper.....use those. If you're too poor for those, you've got a base ten counting system attached to you hands and feet.

Zan, what's 23,480 times 7.5? Don't use a calculator, or a pen and paper. Ok, now, what's 986 times 1340 compared to 532 times 2000? Also, if I can make 3.5 cpu off of a 90% concentration, or 5.5 off of 58%, which is better? If any of those took some time, then the point is proven. Personally, I just use a real life calculator, but an in-game one would be very nice.

It's well within the capabilities of the game and an efficeiint use of Dev resources to address a customer request. What kind of looser doesn't think they shouldn't be able to use this in game. Should you have to turn your record over on the turn table because the game doesn't have it's own MP3 player. We're in the 21'st century and the computer is a tool for this century. Utilize the tool more efficiently.

Yes. It's under options. Look for the keymap submenu...

No calculators in Star Wars? What was the flippin' gold thing with shoulder problems, if not a walking caluclator / translator / multi-whinger.
