Think about it, that is what I would like to see. A profession that specializes in making vehicles. Tricked out rides that are specialized for speed, turning or just a armor plated speeder that can take a crap ton of damage. Of course this would be another elite crafting profession off of the artisan engineering 4 branch.
Vehicle Tinkering: Different parts for different performance. Different parts that would increase speed, turning and general toughness of the vehicle.
Vehicle Customization: Tricking out your ride. Custom paint jobs, adding different parts for different looks of vehicles.
Vehicle Blueprints: Make differnt kinds of vehicles outside the ones that are in game now.
Vehicle Experimentation: The section that gives you your experiment points.
What do you guys think good idea or no? I for one think it would be a kick arse and lucrative profession.

I'd think thatthe Vehicle Engineering proffession is most likely well under way and due out in the Space Expansion later this year.

good idea but i think it should go from master artizan as its far to easy to grind eng 4 with harvesters. also you should not be aloud to specialise in something if you dont have the basics. which would be master artizan. but other than tat its a great idea.

Well to think about it, why would someone need to get 4 blocks in clothing and foods to be a vehicle jockey? Business I can see, engineering definitely, surveying probably so. Maybe similar to the combat medic where you need 2 parts of artisan and 1 part of marksman. You just need say engineering 4, business 4 and surveying 4 to get to novice vehicle jockey.

Yea this would be AWESOME!!! I hope it really is in the works. Hopefully this elite Vehicle Engineering field would include crafting of both space and land vehicles. I agree that Master Artisan should be the prerequisite, definately not a starter profession.
Sub components would have to be upgradable (by the VE), so that an existing vehicle could be modified. Which would allow improvement of certain attributes:Speed, Durability, Torque (for hill climbing and breaking out of orbit), Maneuveribility, Fuel Efficiency, Maintenace Cost, Defense, Offense, Storage, Passenger Capacity.
Each component would affect the overall performance of the vehicle so that a balance would have to be maintained.
Vehicles would have to have condition attribute stats and would require maintenance and power to operate.
I'd also like to see a socket in vehicles where droids could mount the vehicle (the way it was in the movies). And improve the navigation and tactical properties of the vehicle.
I think this would help improve working relations with the other professions also. Weapon and Armorsmiths would be required to craft the Turrets & Armor Hull Panels. Specialized droids would be requiredfor the droid mounting socket, requiring the services of Droid Engineers.Bio Engineers could also be brought in to craftadditional Bio-Enhancement Packsthat would modify a stat temporarily withoutlowering theother vehicle properties(kinda like thenew chef food).
**edit** I'm gonna need more skill points!!
