Anyone else having a serious issue with surveying and resources?

I have no idea what is going on but there seems to be some elements missing from my survey listings. In fact, I have a Mining Installation that was mining aluminum (Goke) which apparently is an Element that NO LONGER EXISTS IN THE GAME!

I even got to collect what was inside the hopper, but the area and the survey devices no longer label GOKE as a resource or on the Hopper listings! Yet it previously mined 15k units of the stuff.

The only Aluminum recourses listed on my Survey Device (34% tool) and surveying III is Ohiris. However, if you go on another server where you have a character like I did. A newb Artisan with no skill levels at all yet in surveying (just took Artisan for this test) and using a 2% survey tool (he made himself) I come up with this list in the same exact area:

Quadenofiian, Ocecc, Eahoopoi, Omniisofaetouiam, Tribume. Then again GOKE is missing, a Required Resource for many things no less!

What is going on?

Its kind of hard to be an Armorsmith when you cannot find the resources required for the job because they have been removed from the GAME or removed from the list on the survey device, or don’t even exists anymore.

I still do not understand why an Artisan with Survey III (500xp away from IV) can only find or survey for one type of Aluminum while a beginner Artisan on another server can survey for 5 types.

PS. Thanks for <insert colorful remark here> me over Dev’s right when I needed this type of resource, and had placed a Mining Installation (that cost me 80k by the way). WEEEE! Were haven fun now!

Yeah, that happens from time to time... certain elements will just not be available on the planet. This... in a way... is normal.

For example, a radioactive substance will not always be available on the planet, so the tool won't even list it. Same goes for reactive gas, and to a lesser degree all other resources.

On the other hand, there can also be more than one of that type on the planet at the same time.

So just wait it out and something should show up within a few days.

Hehe. Yeah. it's normal. It's what's called resource shift. All the resources in the game "shift" in and out of existence. I think the usual period they remain is about 10 days(?). Basically, you have to get what you can before the resource shifts out. This is why you'll often see a large number of harvesters in one spot one day, and then gone the next.

Different servers have different shifts as well. The resources found on Naboo in the Ahazi galaxy won't be the same as those found on Naboo in the Sunrunner galaxy.

It's just part of the system of the game. It's a pain in the butt sometimes (like when you find that 990+ conductivity copper just 3 hours before it shifts out), but that's the way it is.

There's a site (www.SWGcraft.com) that can help you find good resources in your galaxy (as long as people in your galaxy report them to the site). It's pretty helpful.

Wow, I know it was a long time ago, but I don't recall having reacted this badly to my first resource shift.

Shifts do get in a rut sometimes (haven't seen Duralumin on Starsider in months) but they are a normal part of artisan life. Some resources will completely disappear from the server for weeks. Those who keep an eye out and stay on top of the shifts get the best harvesting spots and make the most money. Be ready to do that yourself.

Yeah it happens in two ways.

1. Shifting. This used to happen to me a lot. I would survey in the middle of a shift and get something like a 90% concentration on steel. Then I would sample and be told "density too low". That's because the resource just shifted and for some reason the servers don't update it quick enough. Just try later.

2. Resources "deleted from the game". No resource has been deleted to my knowledge. Yes, it will disappear for weeks at a time. But it is not deleted. When Advanced Ubese came out, no one could find Axidite Iron for weeks. This week Duralloy Steel appeared on my server for the first time in probably 2 months. Whether the resource shift is completely random or pre-selected, it's a way to keep some of the more wanted resources under control.

Umm, I hate to break the news to you, but that's normal.

Resources "shift"every 5-10 days on average.

You can not expect to continue harvesting the same resource forever.

The longest resource I have seen in spawn on Bria was a Decidous Wood that was out for about 3 weeks I believe.

These shifts, orspawns, seem to be totally random.

You may have TitaniumAluminumthis week, Link-Steel Aluminum the next, then no Aluminum for the next month.

Oncea certain resourceis gone, it is gone for good.

You may get another one that's the same type (like another Titanium Alum), but the name and stats will be different.

This is why some resources cost more than others.

On Bria, there is dirt cheap 2cpu girind quality Polysteel Copper, then there's a conductivity 1000 Eweodehi Polysteel Copper that came out about a month ago that can sell easily at 20cpu (credits per unit)

There are many different types of metals, chemicals, flora, gas, water.

Some will be easy to find while others won't.

It's not like every single resource that's needed can be found.

Differentservers will havedifferent types of resources.

For example, Bria has not had a single spawn of Pholokite Extrusive Ore for over 6 months, while Ahazi has a current spawn now.

Some resources spawn all over the place on all planets, while others may only show up on 1 or 2 planets.

Same thing with the variety.

You may have 5 types of Iron this week on any given planet, but trust me, 2 weeks from now, they will all be gone and something else (could be iron, maybe not) will have taken its place.

Sometimes you have 20 resources on your survey tool list, other times you may have only 5.

Each resource randomly shifts in and shifts out.

You may have 5 new metals shifting in and 2 shifting out on the same day.

The next day you may have none shifting in and 3 shifting out.

If the number of incoming shifts outnumber the outgoing ones, your list will get longer and vice versa.

Since some resources are harder to find, the value goes up.

An example would be Ryll Gemstones on Bria...

The current market value for Ryll Gems on Bria is like 350-700 cpu.

The above mentioned Pholokitemay also berare, but only Master Architects need it to make furniture so thedemand is not that high.

A survey tool will display all the resourcescurrently in spawnon the WHOLE PLANET.

You will get the samelist if you started up your tool near Theed or Moenia or anywhere on Naboo for example.

You will just get a different %, or concentrations depending on WHERE on the planet you are at.

IMO, half the fun of crafting is getting the resources needed.

Some resources will be VERY hard to get, while others you can go out and sample if it's in spawn.

You'll soon discover the fun of trying to get the best resource with the best stats is like.

Good luck man.
