Thread: Survey missions??

Ok, I read somewhere on these forums that running survey missions is a good way to make some extra creds fairly easily. I thought I would give it a try with a relatively new character I made. But I seem to have missed something along the way.

The mission was to find some metal at least 67 concentration? or was that units. Not sure. What exactly am I supposed to do with these missions anyway. It didn't give any waypoint and just gave a direction (SW). do I just head SW a bit and then survey for metal until I find a spot of suitable concentration? Do I have to sample a certain amount of that material?

Sorry for the noobish question, but destroy missionsseemed so much easier. Go here, kill this, that's it.

Thanks

Ignore the distance/direction shown on the mission selection screen. The mission is to survey a spot of the resource noted at the density shown. The spot needs to be at least 1024M from the mission terminal. The best way to run these is first, find a high (70%+) spot of a resource 1100-1300M away from the terminal. Get 2 missions for that resource. run/ride to the spot, and survey. You should get the mission complete message. (sometimes you need to run to move around a bit if it doesn't recognize the spot the first time).

A safe way to do the survey missions is to find two towns that have good spawns of something right in the town. Inert Petrochemicals was one that I almost always found in towns. Then just shuttle between the two towns, picking up your survey mission just before shuttling. I found that, even having to wait ten minutes before going back, it was quicker doing that than riding a vehicle out from a town and then returning. Plus while I wait for the shuttle I hand-sample whatever I just surveyed for (since it is a good concentration for the mission), and pick up a fair amount of resources (which you can't do while you're driving a vehicle out and back).

For instance: Kaadara, Moenia, and Keren South shuttleports are all fairly convenient for artisan mission terminals. Sometimes I could get on the shuttle, arrive, do a survey, get paid for two missions, pick up two more missions, and then get back on the shuttle I had just arrived on. Which means I did four survey missions every ten minutes. The hard part is figuring out what is high enough to get the mission for, and having it be somewhere between the shuttle and the mission terminal for activating the reward.

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Is the beta testing almost over for this game?

Don't neglect your combat skills either. Survey mission payouts depend on your proficiency with your equipped weapon.

Yes, I know that doesn't make any sense.

This makes perfect sense to me. If you have a higher combat skill then the mission terminal gives you missions in a more dangerous area. So part of that payout is hazard pay.

It would make perfect sense if you actually had to go to a specific place to complete the mission (which I would not mind in the least). However you just need to be 1024 meeters away from the mission terminal where you accepted the mission. I would think it would make more sense if the payout depended on you survey skill tree. Because as it is, a master combat profession would get better paid missions than I would simply because I can barely fire my pistol.

So what's my point? Survey missions should be geared toward Artisans getting the better payout, not combat professions. But this is a dead horse which has been beaten time and time again.

And stay away from ORE. Too hard to find 67-70%. Use shuttle trick when you have to travel too and all your travel expenses get paid (except really costly flights)

Best resources if you dont *know* what is at the other end seem to be inert petro. Also if you are going to the same planet you can check to see if the resource even exists before accepting mission, Good for liq petro fuel, Solid petro fuel, radioactives. Use hot key to bring up survey screen to chk without interrupting the survey mission terminal. Be sure to *equip* your best weapon (or have strong pet out and grouped if CH) when you open or refresh mission screen to get the highest payouts.
I usually will not take anly less than a 1740c mission (max seems to be 1800) so 2 of those and then shuttle to target is 3400c+ each way.

To reach the highest payout 1800cr you will need to complete a level four weapon in Marksman, and have the appropriate weapon equiped.

In lieu of shuttling between locations find a regular city, take Theed for example, and find a player city nearby that also has an Artisan terminal. Note: Theed has several Artisan Terminals, there are two terminals that are > 1024 meters distance.

Sample at both locations.

Then travel between the two locations ( approximately 70 secs apiece) and complete your missions;within 5 -7minutes you may have finished 4 Artisan survey missions..
