I was doin' some research and came across this. If it doesn't hit the nail on the head about crafting in MMO's - I'm not sure what does. And, to SWG's credit - I feel that they, more or less, hit about 80-85% of the points.

9.) Our cost to produce things has to scale well. It doesn't work for our cheapest goods to cost 10 shekels to make and for our most expensive goods to cost 40 shekels to make. Everyone will buy the 40 shekel variety and those that cannot yet make the 40 shekel variety will not sell anything. The necessary cost difference will depend on how scarce shekels are in your game. Keep in mind that the scarcity of shekels will change over time, and adjustments may be needed.

BAM! that one was right on the head........a lot of crafting kind of knocked off when the "Great Jedi Grind" occured becuase all of these grinders didn't care about anything except quantitiy.

13.) We hope you can devise some way that we can advance our skill without requiring us to make 10,000 widgets. It's not that we dislike making (and selling) widgets, it's just that we tend to flood the market if that's the only way for us to advance. We really can't help ourselves; we like to gain skill like anyone else. But we do know that flooding the market isn't good for anyone. Please give us a way to avoid that.

DOUBLE BAM!!! i mean come on! the only reason why im still a midline DE is becuase i've been focusing on playing and less on crafting. it's basically impossible to get anywhere or sell anything without grinding up to DE master nowadays. (not like this in the beginning, when basically everything of every stat would have some form of buyer. i remember when becoming a master artisan was a great thing because you focused on creating items to sell and NOT grinding up there.)

It's not entirely true you know because if you are a medicore DE at the moment you could make a lot of medicore stuff and you could sell them on Tatooine for newbie players. You could go there and place a vendor and/or you could also sell your stuff on the Bazaar terminal directly there. A newbie player with marksman 1121 and scout 2001 will not be able to buy the best stuff available on the market. You are thinking about selling your medicore stuff to ppl already achieved a lot, learned where to buy the best, having the money because they simply know how to get some when they need it or simply they are rich. Low level stuff should be sold to low level players. I remember i have bought a lot of 'unusable' stuff when i was a newbie. Frankly they were quiet usable for me that time but obviously i wouldn't buythem today. At that time thosegoodies helped me a lot.
