We don't know what shipwright is going to be yet. They have said it is going to be something new, not a starting profession, not an elite profession. We don't know that it is going to require 77 skill points.

I talked with some SOE reps at the San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend and asked them about the shipwright skill tree. What I was told was that it is simply going to be another tree and you'd have to use your existing skill points to go up it. They also said it would be a master profession but did not know what it's prerequisites were going to be.

That being said, these were SOE convention flunkies who probably know very little so take that with a big grain of salt.

He did also DE.

With the same mistake.

DE doesn't require 92 skill points.
It require 140 skill points.

Making Shipwright a stand alone profession will cost many current crafters too many extra skill points. For crafters who have a master in Artisan, Architect, Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, or Droid Engineer it will be a whole 14 extra skill points than it would if Shipwright was added to the engineering line where it logically belongs.

Here's a breakdown for all 5 of these professions:

Artisan + Shipwright:

77 + 77 = 154 (Shipwright as a base profession)

77 + 63 = 140 (Shipwright as anelite Engineering4profession)

Architect + Shipwright:

92+ 77 =169 (Shipwright as a base profession)

92+ 63 = 155 (Shipwright as anelite Engineering4profession)

Armorsmith + Shipwright:

92+ 77 =169 (Shipwright as a base profession)

92+ 63 = 155 (Shipwright as anelite Engineering4profession)

Weaponsmith + Shipwright:

92+ 77 =169 (Shipwright as a base profession)

92+ 63 = 155 (Shipwright as anelite Engineering4profession)

Droid Engineer+ Shipwright:

92+ 77 =169 (Shipwright as a base profession)

92+ 63 = 155 (Shipwright as anelite Engineering4profession)

Please speak loud & clear if you do not want to lose a whole skill tree's worth of skill points.

Well, concidering that every 6 months old character will already have a ship, I'm not sure this will be that important.

I posted it in all the professions forums that would be affected by the change...& Garva is moving them all to the JTL forum.

Yeah I know DE & a few other crafting professions"really" takes more skill points...but that's a whole other discussion which gets nowhere everytime I bring it up...so I didn't.

I wouldn't mind shipwright being a quest. A short one but a quest nonetheless, alas that won't happen since people will want ships ASAP, and linking it off Eng4 is probably what they will do, although parts from Master Artisan, MDE, and maybe stuff from the other elite crafting professions will probably be needed......

Everyone else will get a starter ship I hear too, a throw away, not the 6-month one, but a no-guns, one pilot, no passenger ship.

Personally I think it should come off of master artisan and be an elite profession just for the sole point that is is going to be one of the most overdone professions to hit the galaxy. Logically thinking it is also supposed to be the crowning glory of crafting and just for game mechanics sake master artisan would make a good prequisite. Of course this is just one person's opnion
