Thread: eff. ratings for tools and stations

Basic question about the rating on crafting tools and stations.
This value (some times negative!) does what exactly?
Is it a straight value (or percentage value)
added to artisan assembly?
to artisan experimentation?
How is it used?

It must be obvious, since none of the dozen+ crafter guides I've read even mention the rating.
Pointer to a thread or guide that does describe this appreciated.

It was mentioned by a dev to have an effect on the failure rate (or success rate depending on how you look at it). In the same post they also said thatcrafting stations inside of droids did not have an effect, as in they were not factored in the assembly roll.

As for the value compared to the chance of success or failure, Im not sure. This, like above, goes for both stations and tools. I know its not a percentage though. The tools cap out at +15.00 and have had one or two crit failures with them, with and without a station nearby.

I've heard you can use someone else's private crafting station?
Does this help? I have tried using my specific tool, but I am not allowed to experiment.
Any idea wny not?

You must be standing near a crafting station in order to experiment on an item.

Yes, I'm standing near someone else's Private crafting station when I attempt to craft something. However, I'm not given the option to experiment.

Your using the specialised crafting tool and not the generic crafting tool? The generic crafting tool doesn't support experimentation.

On the negative mod crafting tools. I found it quite annoying that I couldn't make a specialised crafting tool with my generic andit wasn't till after much head scratching and a post to these boards that I learned the only clear process to make good crafting tools is to first make a rubbish one. The rubbish weapons, droid and general crafting tool will then let you experiment on a much better tool. Repeat the process will you have a tool with the maximum rating you can craft with the given resource.

Hope that helps

EDIT : forgot to mention. I have in the past used other peoples private crafting stations with the right specialised tool without any problems. Just make sure you have the right tool.

Also make sure that there are no other crafting stations nearby. When they are clustered together, they sometimes act up. If there is more than 1 other station in there make sure the one you want to use is the one you are closest to.
